Radiographer’s Society raises alarm over recruitment of unqualified people

The Ghana Society of Radiography (GSR) has raised alarm over the deployment of unqualified persons for the work of licensed allied health practitioners who have undergone severe training in an accredited university for 4 years.

The body wrote a strong worded letter to the minister of Justice and Attorney General, Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA), Ghana Health Service (GHS), and the Allied health Professions council urging that they desist from encouraging such practice and return to the road map which was professed earlier. Failure to comply according to them will force action on their side; seeking redress in court for an injunction on the training.

Mr. Prince Rockson, the President of GSR revealed that the programme was halted until April this year when another meeting was called, one where financial clearance for 20 Radiographers and 24 biomedical Engineers was given through the effort of Ghana Health Service.

He went on to state that ‘’ Ghana health Service wants to make sure by whichever means to push these engineers to do the work of Radiographers. This is what the GHS is bent on doing even though the professional body is professing alternatives, but the GHS is still adamant.’’

‘’This act is illegal and a waste of Tax payers money.’’ He lamented. GSR went on to caution the general Public to be weary of persons they take X-Rays examinations from, even at government hospitals. They further advised everybody to do due diligence by finding out whether the personnel is qualified and licensed by the Allied Health Professions Council to practice.
