Doctor lauds healthy lifestyles of Sunyani residents

Sunyani (B/A), April 20, GNA - Dr David Opare, Sunyani Municipal Health Director, has lauded the healthy lifestyles of people in the municipality and the show of more concern for their health in recent times.

He noted that keep-fit clubs had increased in the municipality, indicating that people were watching their lifestyles as well as accessing health care services, which had resulted in drastic improvement in general health care.

Dr Opare who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency said the mutual health insurance registration now stood at 57 per cent of the population in the municipality.

He gave the assurance that the municipal health service would redouble efforts to offer quality medical care to complement efforts made by residents to improve their health.

The Municipal Health Director announced that the Municipal Hospital, which currently carried out only minor surgeries as a result of the lack of trained staff was considering training anaesthetists to enable it to undertake major operations.

He said the clinic at Fiapre, near Sunyani, had recently been upgraded into a health centre in addition to those at Antwikrom and Kwatre, adding, that fencing of the health centre at Nsoatre had begun to keep off encroachers.

Discussions, he said were on-going with the authorities to put up junior staff quarters for both the Municipal Hospital staff and the health staff at Fiapre as the lack of accommodation was undermining health care delivery in the municipality, Dr Opare said. He stated that the Municipal Hospital had tasked the Municipal Assembly to consider constructing a standard municipal health management block to house its departments to enable them to discharge their duties efficiently.
