West Ham midfielder Andre Ayew has advised the home-based players that have gained a call-ups into the Black Stars team ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia and a double-header friendly games against USA and Mexico.

For the first time in over 10 years, the Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has invited seven home-based players into the team.

The players are, Richard Ofori, Joseph Addo and Felix Annan, they are all goalkeepers, the rest are Winful Cobbinah, Daniel Darkwa, Nicholas Opoku and Samuel Sarfo.

And after training two days with the seven home-based players, Ayew has hailed their quality and has called on them to grab the chance given to them.

“To be fair, some you know, some you don’t know, but there are a couple of them [local players] I know. You could see that there is quality in the players,” Ayew told the media in the aftermath of the team’s training.

“Okay, we all know that training and games are different ball games. But to be honest, they were up to the task today at training.

“I [have] congratulated all of them already to be here for the first time, [because] it’s not easy to play for the Black Stars. So if you have the chance you have to seize it as best as you can.”
