Former head coach of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko, David Duncan believes that the Black Stars can win the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt despite the expansion of participating teams from 16 to 24 teams.

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) passed a resolution to increase the number of participating teams in the AFCON from 16 to 24 to allow participation of more countries in 2017 when they met in Rabat, Morocco.

According to the coach, there is nothing logical to suggest that Ghana would not be able to annex the trophy due to the increase in numbers. He opined that the Black Stars will have the upper hand to lift the glorious African trophy that has eluded them for nearly four decades if they are able to prepare feverishly for the tourney which kicks off in June.

“There’s nothing logical to suggest that the higher the number the difficult its going to be, for me I think basically its all about preparation. Preparation gives you the urge, it necessarily won’t make you win it but at least it gives you an urge to win it,” David Duncan told Ghanaweb.com.

He added that, “When Ghana entered the competition in 1963, we had just four teams but we entered and won it, so who knows it might be good omen that anytime the number is increased Ghana is able to galvanize itself to win it.”

Coach David Duncan also expressed his confidence in Black Stars coach, saying that “Kwesi Appiah is up to the task to deliver.
