Accra to Paga by rail, how soon? - Part 2

"If our colonial masters were able to construct the railway lines from the closing years of the 19th century to the early years of the 20th century using local labourers and workers, with some imported from Nigeria, why can’t we abandon the old tracks and build new ones for the 21st century?"

Precisely my question, whose bright idea is it to have two different gauges within the same country, how can that make for interconnectivity from one line to the other, in normal times, let alone under a national emergency?

Why create a new problem when we can strip the old gauge and transform them into the new standard gauge so that the trains can traverse any direction? It is not as if the old system is functioning and occupying a humongous length of tracks which would present a prohibitive cost to strip off. That one country two systems is a non-starter and stupid and short sighted, if you ask me.
