Kwabena, you are very wrong in your reaction to this article. Any Government Official who charges that Diasporans whine too much is part of the problem. He or she would be implying that no diasporan ought to complain about the chronic filth, corruption, and deteriorating Educational and Healthcare standards in the Nation, for example.
You see, most of the time, it is people who live outside the country that come in direct contact with proven solutions to resolve many issues at home, given that the environments may differ.
Secondly, our Officials have the attitude of complaining themselves about situations, and using their suggested solutions to campaign to be voted into political power, only to fail to act to implement their own suggested solutions when they attain the positions sought for. That amounts to deceiving the voters.
Our Officials have long taken political power as a means to quickly enrich themselves at the expense of the silent majority. They do not really apply themselves to the task for which they were elected.
Now, one may ask if these Officials have all never lived outside to see the very examples diasporans often cite to criticize the Officials at home. That is also part of the reasons why most diasporans complain. The diasporans realize that someone who should have known better because he or she had lived or traveled abroad and knows of the working examples does not fight to have similar success at home. And that points to a certain bad character trait that seems to be pervasive among our leaders, and needs be criticized all the time.
In conclusion, if it were not for corruption, most of our economic and social problems would be solved, and the diasporans would not have reasons to complain or whine. But as long as the Officials back home keep looting the State kitty and not using our resources appropriately to get our problems solved, diasporans would keep criticizing them.
One particular example of why diasporans whine is the total neglect of the need for wastewater treatment plants and subterranean culverts in towns and cities, leading to frequent and intensifying floods, year in, year out.
How long does it have to take our Officials to realize that no country really achieves sustainable high standard of living, if she has terribly filthy environment that brews many health problems for her citizens, affecting productivity and repelling international tourism. Corruption is the main reason why many problems in Ghana have persisted. It takes resources away from development and maintenance of human capital, and deny funds for crucial economic and infrastructural expansion.
For want of time, I would just offer you this to ponder over. Our Officials simply take the majority for granted and only focus on filling their pockets with looted State funds. Many do not even have the requisite qualifications for the jobs assigned but they would clamor for those positions to gain prestige and opportunity to steal from us. Period!
So, diasporans deserve to whine. If the Minister does not want to hear us whine, he and his cohorts better cleanse their characters and do the right things by the Nation.

It is silly to ask people to stop complaining about things that have been deliberately let to rot to the detriment of all.
If the attitude of Ghanaians in general is what you think is the problem, why not encourage us to change? Why not call for the right leadership to strongly lead us to change for the better?
To you, the solution would be for us all to take things as they are, and hope that by some act of God, suddenly, everything that is broken would get fixed, right?
I do not know how old you are. But if you are old enough to have lived through our first Republic to this date, you could not arrive at any other conclusion than identifying corruption as our greatest hindrance to real advancement.
That is why J.J. Rawlings and his Coup cohorts got massive instantaneous support for using brute force to temporarily curb Kalabule in the country. As terrible as the human cost of that Coup was, people thought the change that precipitously dropped on us was worth it, hoping that was the end of corruption in Ghana.
Unfortunately, our revitalized respect for human rights was misdirected to allowing the corruption resurface with a vengeance. And, now that Coups are no more a threat, Ghanaian Officials do not give a hoot but keep looting from the State to keep our Economy and Society in shambles.
So, if you are talking about attitudes, then start with the leaders. From our Clergy to Parliamentarians, most of our leaders are simply dishonest and pursue personal wealth with disproportionate inputs. They all want cheap, easy wealth without working to deserve it.

But it remains a fact that Ghanaians complain about everything.Once I was on a flight from Amsterdam.Immediately we arrived at Kotoka the Ghanaian passengers started complaining.From delay in allowing passengers off to the bus carrying them to the arrival Terminal etc complain galore.The worse part was when they realised the arrival hall had been revamped to a better standard they started saying it wasn't necessary and that the money should have gone into a hospital or something.We complain like we are paid to do it and always expect the politician or someone else to fix the problem forgetting that if we can brighten our own small corner the whole country will see the change we yearn for.
