That is an informative article. But I assure you, the author, that the President and his surrogates already know most, if not all, of what you learnt from the Taxi Drivers and more.
The problem, therefore, is not lack of information to the Government as to what the people need or worry about but rather, the lack of will-power among the governing class to simply do what is right by the People. It has a large moral component to it.
Consider the horrible state of Hygiene in our Cities, for example. The President does not need the Taxi Drivers to inform him how bad sanitation levels are around the Cities. The President, himself, has lived in Nima, for example, for almost all his life. He knows how deplorable waste-management situation is around there. At least, he has a nose to smell the gunk and rotten carcasses from the ever-growing dump and wastewater that meanders around the gutterless or blocked-guttered neighborhoods. Nobody ought to remind Nana Akufo-Addo that Ghanaians deserve wastewater treatment Plants like he found in London where he lived and studied. No one ought to remind the President that London and similar heavily populated and huge metropolises around the World he has ever visited hardly get flooded because they have an elaborate well-constructed network of subterranean culverts to drain the streets.
Year in and year out, in recent decades, Accra and Kumasi have been inundated causing both material and human losses. Haven't all our Politicians been living in the Nation to experience that? And yet, hardly do we hear any of them calling upon the Parliament to earmark any funding to promptly begin to tackle that problem of annual deluge.
So, if you want to pass on any message to trigger action from the Government or the President, it has to be a stern warning about not voting for them the next time, or organizing a menacing demonstration on end to tarnish their reputation if they do not show practical efforts at solving our problems.
The era of excessive respect for elders that we have long considered a virtue of our Collective Culture should come to an end now. Under that moral spell we have always shied away from telling things as they really are and let our leaders get away with everything. Well, they have learnt to take it all for granted, and taken us for ignoramuses and faint-hearted and easily-forgiving folks.
Sadly, the Nation is steadily dying away with her resources heavily under rapacious rampage. Sir, did you even realize that for the first time ever in the History of our country, since before our Nation's birth, and even since the time of our migration from the old Ghana, Mali, and Songhai Empires to the lush Savannah, Forest belt and the Coastal areas, we have begun importing Wood from abroad, from our neighboring countries? Doesn't that indict us all, especially, our Political leaders of recent Republics?
The only thing that the President would probably find new to his ears when he ever rides in the Taxis is the ever changing levels of frustration and complaints. And even with that, if his sensitivity to others' plight does not change to be reasonably affected, hardly anything would change for the better.
I share your implied shock because I experienced similar encounters on my return to Ghana a few years back, after almost 30 years-stay outside. I came back to my base in the USA, and wrote a similar article like yours to mention some of my shocking observations of deterioration, too. But hardly has anything improved for the better, since then, regarding the basic existential needs of our folks. Our Streams and Rivers from which folks used to collect drinking water, for instance, are fast dying, completely desiccated, or toxically polluted. So, many have now been compelled to resort to commercial sachet water for drinking! Yet, employment opportunities are waning daily to impoverish the people. Where would they find money to buy the drinking sachet water, for instance? We don't even have a universal access to tap water.
The truth of our situation is that our leaders have chosen to ignore our problems only to concentrate on their personal and selfish illicit acquisition of wealth and cheap fame. They have consistently chosen to indurate their hearts and blunt their senses of feeling for fellow Ghanaians. We don't even need to debate that assertion.
So, we only have to learn how to organize our folks better to effectively scrape off the scalped tissues off the points of touch in these Politicians and the President.

The reality is that those of us who live outside are partly to blame. We are the ones who send money to have the houses built without giving thought to the roads. It is up to the Government to tax the owners of these houses, or simply make them responsible for building the roads. As for the people, they have resigned themselves to the situation.
Some of the roads are simply hazardous to the health of these drivers because of the trauma that is caused to the spines of these poor drivers who must drive on these roads all the time. These injuries and potential injuries are avoidable. Forget about schools and factories, I think Maslow would have put safety first. Let those who already have education put their education to use.
