You just insulted Bawumia without citing one instance where the man had been wrong in his analysis of the Ghanaian economy. As I have said many times, politics in Ghana is unproductive and very destructive to say the least. The idea of NPP touting Bawumia as an eminent Economist for the party's parochial advantage at the polls, at the expense of the country's well-being is a tragedy to behold.
Bawumia's claim to fame is certainly not by his academic prowess, neither is it by a number of publications to his credit, nor a remarkable work of distinction acclaimed to his name; rather, Bawumia's claim to fame is largely attributable to his father's stellar influence in Ghanaian politics. Bawumia is not a product of Yale, MIT, Princeton, or Harvard. Bawumia graduated from an average Simon Fraser University in Burnaby in BC, even by Canadian standard, yet NPP has built him up dangerously to become Ghana's foremost economist.
All his two jobs since graduation were obtained not by his own merits, but by his fathers influence and that of JA Kufuor. Otherwise where in the world could Bawumia become deputy governor of a central bank soon after graduation from university? But Bank of Ghana gave him the deputy governor position through his illustrious father's influence. Again, in 2008 when NDC came to power and he lost his job at Bank of Ghana, it was JA Kufuor who interceded on his behalf for a job at African Development Bank in Southern Africa. He could not have found a job on his own merit if Kufuor had not interceded on his behalf.
This is a the acclaimed economist NPP wants us to believe he has the panacea of all Ghana's economic woes. The irresponsible Ghanaian media often refer to him the 'astute Economist'. Tweaaaaaaa!!! In the country of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Bawumia's PhD is really not better than that received by many other Ghanaian foreign trained Economics PhDs.
Bawumia had lots of advantages because of who his father was. How many Ghanaians get the chance to do all their university education abroad. He never had to work and study at the same time abroad as many struggling Ghanaians still do.
And his Bank of Ghana job at such a young age was very surprising. There were others with older Econs PhDs who never had such a job.
The man may be brilliant but he's certainly being overhyped.

John Mahama, Prs. Kufour and other well meaning Ghanaians who are contributing significantly to the development of this country is Balearic. It does not matter who you are and what you do or what position you hold or your academic credentials, you need to be educated to grow up. This barbarism and what the good books would says witchcraft have no place in the Ghana righted minded and patriotic citizens want to build. Pls. Mr. Antobam for you information, Ghana's concern now is elements like you who are paraded as politicians and want the affairs of the nation to be your entrusted to care. Don't you think that persons like do not deserve a place of trust in a civilized and organised nation where reason is cardinal for leadership and governing? Don't you think you are not fit to be a politician? Mr. Antobam, I counsel you to read the Book of Proverbs in the bible so that you can act well in a well cultured society like Ghana where heroism is honoured and celebrated, and respect for elders is most cherished. That one pays. until then, do not right until you learn how to write. God bless you . By the way, if they place you and Pres. KUFOUR,DR. Dr. Mahamadu Bawumiah is a neo-classical economist par excellence, and his views and what he stands for and his latest book reflect his political & socio-economic perspectives,
What I haven't see him profess is ecological economics, meaning that he and NPP are likely to sell Ghana short on green accounting provided they win the 2016 elections.
We have to be mindful of ISEW (Index Sustainable Economic Welfare) & GNP (Green National Product), instead of GDP, which we are used to.

READ: "...A good Ghanaian economist would never forget that our principal source of electricity has been the hydro-electric power at Akosombo since it began operating in 1966 when the population was only 8 million..."
WE SAY: This is a strange madness to that approach. Bawumia, Kuffour, and all the NPP-types cannot bear to cite anything Nkrumah did for Ghana, even though they are still enjoying a lot of the infrastructure Nkrumah's government bequeathed Ghana. Imagine in 2010 Akuffo-Addo was talking about Ghana building up a so-called "Guggisberg economy", with factories for shoes, bananas, cocoa, etc. But Nkrumah did all of that - but all were sold or destroyed by the same people who overthrew Nkrumah.
THEN THIS: "...With a steadily ballooning population, we are all aware that our ravenous appetite for energy consumption has outpaced our financial capabilities and our ability and capacity to generate adequate power to keep pace with the creeping runaway demand..."
WE SAY: On this one we need to be a bit more reflective and critical.
As far as we know, it is not because of population growth that is the problem. It is because the people who overthrew Nkrumah never had any plans to build up from Nkrumah. As we've said, they even destroyed the foundation. Further, it is no financial capacity when politicians are stealing and squandering Ghana's money from left to right, up and down!
