Busia did not say that he was going to stay in power indefinitely, and he did not declare Ghana as a one-party state either. Moreover, he was given a 5year mandate to deliver for Ghanaians to judge whether to extend his tenure or go for a different leader. But the communist leftovers got panicked and overthrew him prematurely because they were afraid of his achievements. Truly, the man knew exactly what he was coming to do for Ghana and hit the ground running from day one.
On the other hand, Nkrumah had been in power for sixteen years and turned himself into a president for life. In the sixties, the country almost went bankrupt politically and economically and Ghanaians yearned for a change. But unfortunately, since Nkrumah shut all the doors that would enable them exercise their political will, and change him democratically through the ballot box; the only option left to them was a military coup. Therefore, the coup that removed Kwame Nkrumah from power was the only legitimate coup in the history of Ghana.

The so-called legitimate removal of Nkrumah was the beginning of the end of Ghana. What we needed was a Presdident for life because all those opposite were visionless. (Danquah-Busia-Dombo) They fought against our very independence from Britain. Ghanaians never yearned for a change during Nkrumah days, we had everything from pipe borne water to 24/7 lighting throughout the country.

I don't quiet understand this your article, the president is very serious exposing every corruption that finds its way in any corner of the country and deal with it by setting independent commissions which makes his government corrupt. Or you want the president to sweep any corruption under carpet just like Kufuor was doing just to save the image of his government and leave the woes in the country for the future generation to bare with. Talking about hardship in the country, the problem emanated from the cover up of the economic woes by president kufuor by prematurely decorated the country like a middle income country by leaving those woes under cover instead of exposing and deal with them.

Was it not this fool( a snake in the grass)who insulted and "terrorized" Grandpa Akufo-Addo months ago? At that time,he complained that the Old Man had lost two elections(2008&2012),and that it was time for him to quit.He also claimed Kufuor gave as much support to the NPP flagbearer in 2012,but Grandpa blew it by not taking the ex-president's advice.
Of late, this PRIMITIVE TRIBALIST has descended into the gutter by interjecting tribal vitriol into the 2016 presidential race.He claims Asantes and Ashanti are being neglected and shortchanged by the Mahama administration. This ignoramus should know that Western Region is the richest in natural resources in Ghana. And that, the region produces more cocoa than Ashanti - in addition to bauxite, gold, diamond, manganese, coconut, rubber, timber and oil.
Yet,various governments after Nkrumah, have directed investments - domestic and foreign - and huge public outlays to Accra metro area and Kumasi. And you wonder why chiefs and private businessmen in the Western Region are now complaining about inequality in development funds.
Having failed to dislodge Grandpa from the NPP flagbearer position, the writer is now thinking about his stomach and how to cash in should the Old Man win in 2016. Thus, the sudden 180 degree turn to sycophantly support the flagbearer.NPP should be careful of such turncoats.

Katakyie, I assumed your article will identify the leadership weaknesses of Mahama and since you asked voters to vote massively for Nana Akufo-Addo in 2016, showcase the leadership qualities Nana will bring to the job. Instead and sadly, the article had nothing to do with leadership or lack of it.
You also claimed that commodity prices have been appreciating since 2009. Which planet have you been on all these years? Have heard of the recent fall in crude oil prices? You are simply repeating the usual mistakes that NPP has been making and believe that electorate will vote for the party. First, the party must not only offer alternatives but also better solutions before you can persuade voters. Just simply pointing out the lapses of NDC will not get your party into power.

To lay blame of Ghana's problems at the feet of the president is to show lack of analytical skills and elementary level ideas of how standardized co-equal branches of governments are to work; they do work relatively well in western Europe and in the Americas.
Why are we paying such a high price in money, benefits and in connections to members of parliament if they have no known responsibilities, are blameless in the mess of the country and yet gave us a bogus constitution class one pupils could have written for no wages or salaries? We have in Ghana mostly people who are short sighted, tribal, lack economic sense and bring to bear "kokoase" ideas to government and yet expect different results from lives in Ghana's small towns and villages. Let me use this opportunity to give you an idea of what amounts to wasted opportunity in government. The NPP and NDC governments invested in a worthless national-ID scheme with a flawed ID design that came from a sales pitch from Ghanaians in the UK with political connections but no foresight. The national-ID could have been printed on HID designed cards that could be used for card access to government buildings in the age of security concerns, used for transactional card-swipes, as Social Security cards for the NHIS scheme, used to drive passport issuance and used at automated time clock stations as government offices go automated and businesses move to the electronic age. We spent money creating a worthless legacy system thanks to a worthless parliament and presidency that some in the NPP call the best government can buy; I say we never got it so wrong in Ghana with this delusional democracy we tout. We cannot delegate out thinking to someone and blame them when something goes wrong.
