WE SAY: Ha!
Funny, when you realize that the reverse is not true. Suddenly, we see the African power within each of those countries, before we even begin to force multiply, a la Kwame Nkrumah's Pan-Africanism.
Funny still that France has been more generous to the US than to and all of its "colonies combined.
1. In 1803, France sold Louisiana (27,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi) to the US for a paltry $15 million ($556/square mile).
2. France constructed and delivered the Statue of Liberty (“Liberty Enlightening the World”) to the US, at New York, in 1886 (Cost to France: $250,000). Free, of course!
3. When, in 2003, the US Congress opted change the name of "French Fries" to "Freedom Fries" as part of a Republican protest at France's opposition to a war on Iraq, France only watched in amusement.
And so on, and so forth!
ITEM: We imagine some how, all that "liberty enlightening" the World never reached those "Francophone" countries.
No, rather, more additional benefits and homage was paid to France, Italy, etc, and the West, generally, in bank accounts, mansions in Paris, Rome, and the Cathedral, the $300 million cathedral in the bush:

"...Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, Yamoussoukro
Incongruously situated in the West African bush, the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace (French: Basilique de Notre Dame de la Paix de Yamoussoukro) in Yamoussoukro is the largest church in the world.
The Ivory Coast (Cote d'Ivoire) is only 20-30% Christian, with the remainder adhering to indigenous animist religions (25-40%) and Islam (35-40%). The great basilica was the project of the Catholic former president of the Ivory Coast, who wished it to be a monument to himself.
History of Basilica of Our Lady of Peace
Côte d'Ivoire president Félix Houphouët-Boigny chose his birthplace of Yamoussoukro as the new capital of his country in 1983. As part of the plan for the city, the president wished to memorialize himself with the construction of what would be the "greatest church in the world." The president commissioned a stained glass window of his image to be placed beside a gallery of stained glass of Jesus and the apostles.
The basilica was constructed between 1985 and 1989 at a cost of US$300 million. It was intentionally modeled after the Basilica of Saint Peter in Rome, whose size it intentionally surpassed to become the largest church in the world. The cornerstone was laid on August 10, 1985, and was consecrated on September 10, 1990, by Pope John Paul II. Like its model in Rome, Yamoussoukro's basilica is not a cathedral. The nearby Cathedral of Saint Augustine is the seat of the bishop of the Diocese of Yamoussoukro and the principal place of worship for the city.
The basilica has aroused much international controversy, for the lavish building glittering with Italian marble sits in the middle of an impoverished African city where only a minority of homes have running water and adequate sanitation, and the cost of the basilica doubled the national debt of Côte d'Ivoire. Despite this, many of the country's Catholics are proud of their monument.
The design of the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is modeled closely on that of St. Peter's Basilica, but architect Pierre Fakhoury constructed the dome to be slightly lower and the cross on top to be larger. The finished height is 158 meters (518 feet). There is enough space to seat 7,000 people in the nave with standing room for an additional 11,000 people.
The basilica is constructed with marble imported from Italy and is furnished with 7,000 square meters of contemporary stained glass from France. Columns are plentiful throughout the basilica but are not uniform in style. Next to the basilica are two identical buildings serving as a rectory and private papal villa, respectively. The villa is reserved for papal visits, which has only occurred once.

Brother Marcus,
Nkrumah threatened to freeze French assets in Ghana if France's nuclear tests in the Sahara was not discontinued.
In fact, Nkrumah summoned the French Ambassador to Ghana at the time to explain why the French felt justified to conduct nuclear test on African soil. That was when he assured the French of freezing their assets in Ghana if the tests was not discontinued.
This is my own little contribution to the discussion.
Thanks.

As MARCUS AMPADU says, we are prone to amnesia.
And if you were not around to see, to hear, to remember, and if you were born only after, you get conquered by ignorance, until you read or hear, after, like now.
But you must read!
Even so, you have to have an open mind.
And for those who think everything Nkrumah did was bad, for those who spit on Nkrumah, one will never hear, even in their "pretentions" to be for Ghana/Africa.
Greetings to all!

Unless they (France and other imperialists) obliterate Africans and other victims of colonialism from the face of this earth, it is inevitable that France and their other imperialist collaborators will one day pay dearly for their many unspeakable sins and crimes against humanity. It is an inevitable procedure of nature.
I however think that the Almighty not being possibly amnesiac, is not the issue or the answer to our problems. The issue is that we must gird our loins, break out from the depression of the post slavery traumatic stress disorder (PSTSD) and employ the tools that the Almighty gave us - brains, hands, legs, eyes, mouth and our intellectual capacity, to resist oppression and strive towards our noble aspirations without having to hold other sections of mankind in evil bondage to achieve our aims.
No God nowhere is going to come down from anywhere and do for us, what he designed us to do and what we should be doing for ourselves. Its as simple as that. The God that we used to know has in any case now been hijacked into the camp of the enemy. He is being used to put us to sleep while we are gang-raped into a total state of deprivation.

Dear Readers,
I want to say that Haiti's former President Jean Aristide demanded that, France pay back the $21-30 billion dollars it [France] forced his country to pay, after losing its hold on Haitian slavery and its associated wealth in the wake of the Haitian Revolution.
This was part of the many reasons he was overthrown, with American and French backing. Fearing that the spread of the benefits of the Haitian Revolution might lead to African-American slaves' revolting against their white masters and the American government, America evaded Haiti and ruled it for years during which the Haitian economy was "destroyed."
Then America took away a chunk of Haiti's gold reserves and other things when its military and marine finally left Haiti (America occupied Haiti from around 1914 to 1934). Aristide also called for the return of these stolen items.
Then the Clinton Administration and the World Bank/IMF teamed up to make Aristide's government unpopular by shoving down his throat draconian policies. These were all done to shut him up. Fortunately Clinton apologized to the Haitian people for the role his government played in further impoverishing Haiti.
In fact, Aristide and his family were literally forced into an American marine's plane and flown out of Haiti to Central Africa. He and his family later ended up in South Africa where he studied for a doctorate in African languages.
It is surprising that President Obama asked President Jacob Zuma not to allow Aristide to leave South Africa when Haitians were about to elect a new president.
Readers who want further information can read Randall Robinson's book "AN UNBROKEN AGONY; HAITI, FROM THE REVOLUTION TO THE KIDNAPPING OF A PRESIDENT."
Robinson's is a family lawyer (and adviser) to the Aristides, as well being the founder of TransAfrica, the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the United States. Robinson was there from Aristide's capture all the way to his forced deportation from Haiti and final return to Haiti.
Robinson went on a hunger strike that forced President Clinton to restore Aristides presidency after its first overthrow. Robinson and his organization, TransAfrica, probably did more than any single group in the United States to bring down Apartheid South Africa.
In fact, it was the pressure he and his organization brought to bear on the Reagan Administration that brought about the first most comprehensive set of laws and hence sanctions on Apartheid South Africa.
Dr. Molefi Kete Asante also served as an adviser to Aristide in a number of capacities, reviewing his books and visiting the Aristides when they lived in South Africa. Aside that, Aristide is a Fellow of Dr. Asante's Molefi Kete Asante Institute.
Readers can visit the website of Democracy Now and Dr. Asante's website (www.asante.net) for additional information.
I hope this little piece of information helps.
All errors are mine.
Thanks.

I wouldnt quite exonerate Blair, Hollande and other western leaders including Obama - unfortunately, for crimes against humanity which are at par with Hitlers. Just simply refer to recent post-second World War crimes committed against the people of Iraq, Vietnam, Libya, DR Congo, Afghanistan, Syria, Algeria, Tunisia and perhaps you might understand what I am talking about.
Hitlers principal mistake was that he attempted to commit the same crimes against humanity upon western Europeans – the same or similar crimes against humanity that western Europeans had been casually committing against hundreds of millions of Asians, native south and north American Indians, native Australians, Arabs, Vietnamese and Africans for centuries. Hitler did not realize that when atrocities of that level are committed against members of the Caucasian race of Europeans, it is then referred to as a holocaust which is a very very naughty thing to do. Otherwise if it is against any other race of people, it is just simply dismissed or even praised as legitimate acts in pursuit of taming and civilizing native savages, communists and Arab terrorists.
Marcus, a simple audit of historical crimes against humanity will reveal the fact that Hitlers crimes were relatively minimal in terms of the outright and insensitive annihilation of human beings.
Again, how can socialists be as bad as capitalists? Has any socialist enslaved you or your people? Has any socialist colonized you and your people? Has any socialist continued to criminally exploit, as is currently being persecuted by France on hapless Francophone African countries, you or your people? And at the barest minimum level, has any socialist country overtly shown racist and condescending attitudes towards you and your people? On what basis did you arrive at the conclusion that socialists are as bad as capitalists?
Socialists on the other hand, were the people who assisted Africa to break the chains of tyranny and colonialism that had kept Africa in dictatorial imperialist bondage for centuries.
