Nana Akuffo Addo should fight for the nomination, it is not going to be handed to him on a silver platter. So far Nana and Alan have conducted their campaigns devoid of personal attacks from the two principals but the same cannot be said about their supporters.

The blindly, vociferous, and vicious articles by Nana's loyalists like Okoampa-Ahoofe, and Alan's loyalist Katakyie will only make NPP's defeat in 2016 more likely. If [Nana or Alan]one goes down at the party leadership contest, so will the other at the General Election.

The expression "To pretend as if the core party members and supporters of the NPP have the memory banks of poultry-farm chickens...." is substandard English and banally colloquial.
The better and more acceptable form should read, "To pretend the core party members and supporters of the NPP have the memory banks of poultry-farm chickens...."
"pretend to be asleep " is correct while "pretend as if " is not. "Pretend" is a transitive verb, but usually an intransitive verb is used before "as if", eg.
She looks as if she is going to cry.
He acts as if he is somebody.
"As if" conveys the same notion as "pretend", so "pretend as if" is not a good combination. It's pleonasmic and tautological.
