Have you asked yourself why the NDC doesn't win in Ashanti and Eastern Regions? Does it mean the NDC doesn't relate well in both regions? Do you honestly believe that the NDC loves Volta and Northern Regions? Let's not play the ostrich. Look critically at the evidence on the ground.
As for the unpalatable comments from party communicators, both parties are equally guilty. You can quickly remember Ken Agyapong and others from the NPP but I can also cite many examples from the NDC's camp.... Ashanti Region may vote NPP in every election but you cannot convince me that Volta and the 3 Northern Regions vote for NDC because of certain comments from the NPP members. That is a hopeless and shallow excuse.
The truth of the matter is that tribal tensions and mistrust have always existed in Ghana, even before independence, but the sad reality is that the NDC has since 1992 used it as an electoral tool, thereby deepening tribal tensions in the country. They have shamelessly made it their business to play on tribal sentiments, setting some tribes against others. They know they cannot and will never match the NPP if it came to competence, vision and the capacity to deliver so the only available strategy is to play the tribal card. They have even managed to set all the Akan tribes against the Asantes and that is why they are winning in Brong Ahafo, Central and Western Regions. Can you also say the NPP lost to these regions because they don't relate well with them? Indeed we are living in dangerous times. Currently our chieftaincy institution has been infiltrated by these callous power-hungry NDC. I don't really mind if politicians engage in bastardizing and demonizing their opponents but please, do not divide us in your quest to win power. That is evil to say the least!
I will end by saying that the ordinary kayaye, ice water seller or truck pusher who out of ignorance may vote on tribal lines is the one who suffers most because an incompetent and visionless govt will never be able to solve their problems. I always cringe when I see these vulnerable girls from the north sleeping in front of stores and pavements with their babies in the night and consider the amount of monies wasted in the name of SADA, GYEEDA, Akonfem, etc.... then I ask myself if we Ghanaians are humans. The incongruity is that the capitalist oriented NPP appear to be more humane towards these poor and vulnerable people than the so called social democratic govt of the NDC that is supposed to champion the welfare of the poor and vulnerable.
Until we all open our eyes and think about our pride and dignity before we think about our politicians, incompetence will always reign in our society.

It is very easy to talk bla, bla, bla and blame everything under this earth but the facts still remain that nothing, absolutely nothing can change you Ashantis. Konadu, you are talking bullshit that people voting on tribal line. Can you swear that you did not vote for the NPP? And if you did, what motivated you not to do that? Sometimes some of you talk as if Ghana is for you Ashantis and for that matter Ghanaians should bow down for you. Bullshit a thousand times. You have the gust to say making genocide statements against certain tribes in this country is nothing to prevent the same people from voting for Akan party that is calling for their extermination. You can´t be serious. And when your Akufo Addo had the opportunity to go there, instead of to apologise to the people when his opinion was sort on that issue, he sid the case is in court and couldn´t comment on it. Meanwhile, he was busily commenting on that of Woyome which was/is still in court. If this is not arrogant and disrespect for the people of the Volta region, what else is it? I am happy that the writer has now realise that, there are factions within the NPP, ie, the "Akyem Mafias" as he called them. Who has incited other Akan tribes against the Ashantis as you sort to be saying? Nobody. it is your primitive and bush way of behaviour that made all of these Akan tribes to keep away from you. What do you Ashantis think you are? There was a time when a whole chief or self proclaim king threateened to kidnap another chief from a different region without thinking of the consequences. Even though he did not carry on with his threat, it lives much to desire. What about the name calling of the president John Mahama that he is a "pepeni" And so what? Is he not a human being and a Ghanaian? What about your candidate himself? What credibility has he when he can not tell Ghanaians who his classmates are/were apart from his all die be die nonsense? You can continue to blame every tribe in this country but until you people learn to behave as human beings, and respect other tribes and stop your dirty tribalism, you will continue to suffer. This is just the beginning. You can say whatever you want but Ghanaians have now known you. Why are you people not talkng of Dr. Bawumia as potential candidate but always talking of yourselves? You see how tribalistic and Hopeless illiterate bush people you are? This was the guy who you used to fight your diabolical and useless case at the court. You are now dumping him just as you did to the late Aliu. You talking about GYEEDA AND SADA.What about hotel waa waa waa? The vodafone, the kick backs and the rest? The awarding of contracts to cronies and children. What about that? Basura!

"I don't really mind if politicians engage in bastardizing and demonizing their opponents" I agree with you in toto!!!
And I'm pretty sure you do know this and will venture to say quite well, that, POLITICIANS do not love anybody but themselves first and when they remember later on, throw their constituents into the mix. It does not matter which party is in power. The politicians also know most of the electorate either does not understand or care a hoot about their policies and so can go about promising anything that will get them elected.
However, one thing I can say with a high degree of certainty is, the electorate does not forget what politicians says about them and they'll always punish or reward them come elections time. That is for sure. It is for this reason that Cardinal Richelieu warn the child king to be careful not to offend people personally. Offend their uncles, fathers, mothers -- they'll find a way to justify your actions but to offend them personally they will never find it in their hearts to forgive you. That is why such generalizing comments and statements, the likes by kofi are dangerous.

I totally agree with all the things you said except your last paragraph. Many people are quick to point accusing fingers on others for insults, but if you critically analyze this phenomenon, you will realize that tribal insults are not engaged by a single tribe but almost every tribe in Ghana. The difference is that some people have an inferior mentality and they carry such emotions into every important decision they make. So they express their resentment and frustrations against those they deem as "oppressors" during elections. In effect competence and ability is never considered by such people, NO, it is VENGEANCE.
Even in the NPP there are many who suffer from the same "disease". I am sure if Nana was an Asante, he would have won only one region. That is not to say Nana lost solely on account of tribalism. I think he lost in the last 2 elections because he is a poor organizer.
I can cite numerous examples of insults and evil comments from some politicians against other tribes but in my humble opinion, those insults do not influence the voting pattern. I remember Rawlings referencing people from Central Region with cats and neatness in one of his speeches to the people. Of course the chiefs were angry but do you hear anybody reminding him? You see, we all have conscience.... I'm sure that is why many people try to justify why they deliberately make wrong choices even when those reasons seem hollow.
I started voting in 2000. I voted for NPP both in 2000 and 2004, but I did not vote in 2008. Why? Because I was disgusted with the opulence that characterized the NPP's campaign. I did not vote for the alternative NDC too, why? because I thought and still think the NDC is not credible or could perform better, not because some tribe has offended me.
In the 2012 election in the US, many whites who traditionally vote the Republicans chose Obama instead because they thought about the opportunities under a Democrat govt, even though many do hate him. (because of his skin complexion). This is what every Ghanaian should preach. In any case who are we rewarding when we go to the polls?
My humble solution is that, until we scrap the chieftaincy institution, we will never progress the way we should because I believe that institution is a constant reminder of our tribes and ethnicity. Most Ghanaians fail to see and confront the truth because of our tribal leanings and differences. Tribalism influences the way we think, act, elect our leaders, appoint and employ people and sadly the way we judge people. Our smart politicians today have used our tribal differences to put wool over our eyes so we pretend to see everything they do as okay. What is the point in voting incompetent tribal heroes when I see so much poverty around me?

I don't know what your faith inclinations are but please stop blaspheming God's name. I strongly believe: 1. The NDC used the Electoral Commissioner to rig the elections. (4 or 5 sets of pink sheets with their own figures; that's why a lot of them were not signed.) 2. Mahama bribed the SC judges(at least 4 of them) using one of the Ahwois and a powerful king. The app 200 phone calls documented between Mahama and the main players just days to the ruling bear testimony. 4 of the SC judges were driven to the Flag Staff House in a motorcade with the IGP on the morning of the judgement to see Mahama. This is where Mama Oye Lithur's involvement came in. Why did Mahama extend the IGP's tenure? Do you think the Vikileaks are a joke? Of course the country has become more polarised now than ever b'cos the three northern and the Volta regions have become fanatical with NDC. Just look at the percentages of parliamentary seats and presidential votes won in these regions vis a vis those won in the Ashanti and Eastern regions (the supposed stronghold of NPP) by the TWO MAIN PARTIES and you will come out absolutely convinced about the polarisation. It is obvious that both parties are corrupt but whereas the NDC will spread monies to its supporters, (They will ferry supporters from the northern regions to rallies in the south, accommodate and feed them with credited "waakye" and give them pocket monies to boot. A leading member of the Sekondi- Takoradi NDC had a court order to have his house sold to pay for credited waakye because the national headquarters had not paid up) the NPP will invest the monies in national development projects. The prospects for Ghana under Mahama seem to appear bleak and doomed with the level of corruption we are seeing. As for Tony Lithur his time of reckoning will come for his part in the Ewe/Northern create, loot and share brigade .

"Was the defeat due to Nana Addo's "All die be die" and "Y3n Akanafoo" comment which was misconstrued by the NDC propagandists?"
How did the NDC propagandists misconstrue Nana Addos' statement? Did he not say that? As a political strategy, the NDC capitalized on his unfortunate statement to get votes in Accra and parts of the Eastern regions among the Krobos and some of the Guan populations. The secret to the NDC's victory lay in their smart selection of its vice presidential candidate, Amissah; the central and Western regions which used to be competitive were out of play as a result. Note that John Mahama's wife is from the BA and most NDC officials, including the venerable General Mosquito knew the place well. That put it in the NDC column
. My brother, once the 4 swing regions were out of play, there is no way the NPP was going to win the election. The NPP also had vice presidential candidate without much political base inthe north; his late father was a staunch NDC and even when parts of Mamprugu stood by their son, that was not enough to dent the performance of the NDC in their strongholds. The whole of Upper-West was gone because of the NPP poor record in that region during the Kuffuor administration. A candidate such as Ambrose Dery from the Upper-West, with long ties with both the UPPer East and Northern Regions could have turned out a better performance; neither Alhaji Jawulla nor Boniface Saddique has the gravitas nor influence in Gonja land to compete with John Mahama.
The next elections:
The NPP has already taken things for granted, thinking that because of the current challenges in the country, it is theirs to lose come 2016. This is a false start and the manner in which they contested the election means that, the party has made things more difficult for its parliamentary candidate in the North in the next elections. Most Northerners are now convinced that the opposition or even insults rained on JM are informed by where he comes from. Central and Western- where much of the NDC development is taking place will not abandon their sons-vice, energy minster, CEO of Gas project because of promises the NPP will shout at them. So the 2016 elections will be contested in Accra, Eastern regions; in the former, Jake insistence to retrieve his bunglow does not bode well for the NPP in the region.

Perception of Arrogance of Leadership and Members of NPP
About 22% of the respondents raised the issue of perceived arrogance of the leadership and Flag-Bearer of the NPP and cited it as a reason for not appealing to the Ghanaian voter. Some of the responses are quoted below: One respondent gave this answer, when asked why the NPP lost the election. “Perceived arrogance of the flag bearer and the utterances of the party leadership to the effect of the Party been associated with arrogance and tribalism”. Another respondent also gave this answer “Arrogance of its members most of whom belong to the higher echelons of the society and far removed from the realities on the streets”. A third responded has this about the Flag Bearer “Nana Addo is not liked by Ghanaians because of his perceived arrogance. And he has proved it on two occasions even by his attitude when he loses elections”.
Connection with the Grassroots
About 5.5% of the respondents linked the electoral loss to lack of touch and connections with the Ghanaian grassroots by the NPP. “They did not connect to the folks on the ground’’ was a response. They also blamed the inaction of the party’s members of parliaments, who were only engrossed in their elections at the expense of the presidential election. Some respondents also cited apathy as a result of imposition of unpopular candidates at the constituency by the NPP party headquarters in Accra.
Poor Communication of Party Spokes person and Party Manifesto
About 19% of the respondents linked the electoral loss on poor and sometimes contradictory presentations of the party spokes persons on the policies and ideas espoused in the electoral manifesto. The campaign messages were also skewed towards free education policy and nothing more’’ asserted one respondent. Their key message of free SHS was hollow and their spokespersons kept contradicting themselves on the issue replied another respondent.
Vitriolic Utterances and Perceived Violent Behaviour of Some Members of the Party
About 17% of the respondents had issues with the utterances and behaviour of some NPP members. This they attributed to the shunning of the party by some peace-loving Ghanaians. They also questioned why the leadership of the NPP could not bring these leading members to book in order to restore the image of the party. ‘Their posturing and messages towards the election did not foster peace in the country’. Key leadership of the NPP made statements which could be construed easily as vitriolic. ‘The leadership of the party failed to condemn utterances that were aimed at dividing the country along ethnic lines’. “The Gen. Sec was too militant and unreasonable in public pronouncements just like his NDC colleague. I personally wanted change but I didn't see anything
Perceived Ashanti/Akyem dominance of the NPP
About 11% of respondents linked the defeat to the perception of voters that NPP is not broad based ethnically and its structures and policies has ensured an Ashanti and Akyem dominance, which makes it very difficult for other ethnic groups who are in the party and sympathize with the party to take up leadership roles. ‘The NPP needs to break that tribalism as portrayed by the just ended elections, everything must be done to appeal to the other tribes’’. “They NPP do not welcome other tribes apart from Ashanti and Akyems. They claim they do but it's not felt’’.
Illiteracy of Voters
About 8.3% of the respondents linked the defeat to illiteracy of voters. “Illiteracy level in Ghana is low and therefore voters have no foresight ’’. High illiteracy rate among registered voters was cited by a respondent.
Vote Manipulations and Electoral Fraud
About 14 % of the respondents attributed the loss to vote manipulations and electoral fraud by the EC to favour the NDC. “It is pretty obvious that such a loss is artificial i.e. stolen verdict”. One respondent also linked it to an orchestrated fraud using high technology/IT to manipulate the results. There was a respondent who believed that the NDC did not win the election.
Lack of vigilance and ignorance of Party Agents at Polling Points
25% of respondents blamed the party agents for being slack and complacent at the polling points and they attributed it to training and lack of motivation. “The ignorance of our party's polling station assistants and the unpreparedness of our party officials played a key role here, where I cast my vote for instance the NPP agent there could not even sign his signature and mixed small and capital letters in writing his name” was a response from a respondent.
Other factors Captured
One respondent attributed the blame for the loss to destiny i.e. that the NPP was destined to lose the election. Another attributed it to internal wrangling between Parliamentary Candidates and party officials at the constituency level. One respondent also cited the old age of the flag bearer as an issue. The issue of operational members of the NPP headquarters relinquishing their core responsibility of coordinating the electoral machine to take part in parliamentary elections was also cited. Finally one respondent attributed the loss to wrong choice of parliamentary candidates in certain constituencies.
The Way forward for NPP
Respondents were asked to suggest possible solutions and way forward to re-strategize and organize for future electoral victory. This is a summary of some of the recommendations given by respondents in this study.
Party Communication and Public Relations
The NPP needs to get plugged in with the folks in the rural areas and their communication persons should avoid loose talks on TV and on air etc. ‘Kennedy Agyapong's utterances did not help at all’ was a respondent’s comment. ‘We should look for fluent and intelligent people to represent us at all times during TV or radio discussions and we should be circumspect in our choice of words at all times’’ noted a respondent. The party needs to freshen its communication team. Respondents tasked the NPP supporters to desist from using bad words that could be misinterpreted. ‘Most of the NDC party support was drawn from the opposition because of the "All die be die" comment as well as other unnecessary comments made by the party leadership’ was a comment from a respondent. ‘Politics should not be conducted in such a dirty way’ commented a respondent. The party should revise its message and make it more open to cover entire economy, pension, health, fisher folks, farmers and the industry make the next election about NDCs record. The party need to have a broad scope and tackle issues rather than attacking the NDC on all their policies, even when that policy is a good one. NPP Parliamentarians should be seen to be giving the government’s alternative policies than just saying no to any governmental policy. NPP’s alternative as a party
Party Agents and Polling Administration
Respondents perceived that the NPP must have dedicated and serious agents for the party. The agents must think wide outside the box on any possibility the opponent can use to outsmart the party. The party needs to have serious minded and dedicated agents who would be very vigilant. The NPP should also call for CCTVs and video coverage to be used at the polling stations to enhance the free and fair results.
The respondents recommended that the party needed more experienced people in the polling management team. NPP’s research and elections office was found wanting and had conflicting communication when the EC decided to allow voting into the second day. NPP was not prepared for this. The party was not sure how their reps in the strong room certified results without confirming with the party. The party should improve on the ability to get supporters to register and also get them to vote on voting day. The party agents must be highly motivated and educated on electoral processes and procedures to ensure a high level of diligence were some of the recommendations given.
Perception of Elitism and Arrogance
The respondents were of the opinion that the NPP needs leadership overhaul based on the above submission. The party should seriously work on the perception that NPP as an elitist party, Pronouncements that tend to deepen polarization of the electorate and fan ethnicity, breaking the myth about the party being an Asante Akyem party and achieving a broader base of support. Winning elections in only 2 regions is not satisfactory. The party needs to work on the rural folks because most of them are not educated and are easily convinced by all kinds of lies and information. A lot of negative things have been put in their minds about the NPP.
Party Reorganization and Succession Plan
Respondents recommended that the party must empower the youth and stop the idea of generational succession and perceived ethnic ‘round-robin’ of Asantes and Akims. The NPP needs young, vibrant and dynamic persons to be in leadership positions. They need the requisite mentorship and ‘curing’ from the older generation, for the flagbearership, respondents were of the opinion that a more youthful and perceived ''non abrasive'' ethnically accepted candidate will be the best to match the NDC’s candidate boot for boot. Respondent urged the older party members to use their experience and wisdom to provide needed positive guidance.
Ethnic Voting Trends and Perceptions
Respondent were of the opinion that, the NPP performed poorly in the coastal areas, zongos and the Volta Region during the 2012 elections. They perceived that the NPP needed to re-orient and repackage their political image to appeal to these groupings that keep voting against the party. Some of the respondents were of the opinion that the NPP was ‘Akanized’ and that perception needed to be erased by opening up leadership positions to more members who were outside the perceived ‘Akan’ block. They tasked the NPP to find out why the opposition (NDC) keeps increasing in numbers in party strongholds especially Ashanti Region. The Party should move away from the perceived dominance of Ashantis and Akyems in flag-bearer ship and open up the leadership platform to include people from the Volta Region, Northern Region, Greater Accra and other regions The flag bearer should have the positive qualities to take on the opposition (NDC) on pragmatic and real time national issues devoid of the usual acrimony of ethnicity and elitisms. Respondents were of the opinion that any future Flag bearer should be humble, influential, and dynamic and a charismatic person for that matter. Respondents also tasked the NPP, to seriously rebrand particularly in the Upper and Volta Regions.
Conclusion
This particular research was conducted to sample the opinions of small cross sections of Ghanaians and showed that the NPP will have to carve a new image for itself, by reorganizing its internal structures to appeal to a wider base of the Ghanaian populace, if it wants to capture political power. Some of the perceptions of the party by respondents were elitism, arrogance, ineffective and indecent party communicators on public media, limited political agenda and manifesto, inadequate training for grassrootparty agents, internal strife hinging on ethnicity and a host of others. Respondents were of the opinion that the NPP needs to introspect and present a presidential candidate with a broader national appeal, ethnically progressive and inclusive and above all with a manifesto that will be pragmatic. The respondents recommended the NPP, to come up with a manifesto which will provide a strong viable alternative to the ruling government policies and must be attainable and comprehensible to the average Ghanaian. This study sought to be a frame work for further research to validate and come up with more conclusive findings and recommendations. Respondents were of the opinion that the NPP should commence an immediate in-house audit and forensic analysis of the electoral results and outcomes to lay out the strong foundation, if it wants to attain electoral victory in election 2016.

Katakyie, Happy New Year in advance. First, I think if you are interested in finding out why NPP lost the 2012 Presidential Election, then you (as well as NPP) MUST separate it from the Petition. The two are different and both needs answers. I say so because one of the questions you posed included whether Atuguba should be blamed for denying NPP victory. Atuguaba had nothing to do with the Presidential Election. He Chaired the SC Panel on the Election Petition.
With the exception of the question on the petition, all the rest are relevant and must be of keen interest not only to NPP but political scientists and Political Science students as well as even NDC and other political parties.
The findings of the research reproduced by Okatayie is very interesting, though he did not state who conducted the research and when. The figure that surprised me was the 25% of those interviewed blamed party agents for the defeat (for their lack of effectiveness at the polling stations). That is serious because that is where elections are won and lost.
Sadly, it appears the NPP leadership is repeating the same mistakes that contributed to their defeat in 2012. That is, the current leadership are ensuring that the same people from local to national are retained. This strategy makes the expansion of NPP electoral college irrelevant and almost defeatist. Instead of electing competent representatives, those who will do their bidding are being imposed or re-elected.
The questions you have posed in the article are a good reference point for NPP to find answers for 2016 and unless that is done, the risk of another defeat in 2016 may become a reality. I also believe that whilst this task lies heavily on NPP and especially its leadership, others such academics and social commentators could contribute. I may do a desktop analysis of the defeat using information from the Ghanaian media, probably early 2014. That will be my contribution even if NPP supporters and sympathizers see me as anti-NPP. The objective is to strengthen rather that weaken democracy in Ghana as I would not want to see a de facto one party rule in Ghana.

Kofi, Happy New Year in advance to you. I agree with your general comments and in particular your suggestion about what political parties and students can learn from the recent electoral history of Ghana.
The survey results Okaakyie quoted were from an earlier survey that he undertook, the results of which he reported here on ghanaweb some months back. My only criticism of that survey is that it was based ona arather poor methodology and lacks scientific rigour.
That said,I believe Okatakyie truly cares for, and about his party the NPP and in my view he genuinely wants them to address their problems and win power, hence his initiative in undertaking both these analyses and the survey he quoted from.
He betrays a weakness - labelling some as "Akyem mafia" and always ending his articles with "God Bless president Kufuor". This sycophancy betrays a bias on his part evenj within his own party which I believe diminish his influence in conveying what otherwise is a serious message to the NPP.
You are I as political commentators have been called names and criticised variously, bugt one thing no one can do is tie us to any one individual no matter how hard they try. Integrity and consistency are essential ingredients for political commentary and advocacy even with one's one party. Okatakyie needs to learn that.

Mr Amuna, Okatakyie attempted to make a long list of reasons but you will agree with me that its somehow hypocritical. Why? Because Okatakyie should have started with self introspection of how he himself view other tribes than Akan with scorn and disrespect. On this point Nana Addo sufferred hugely by the insults and the abusive language of his campaign entourage the likes of Sir John, Sammy Awuku, Gabby Ochere Darko, Ken Agyapong,P. C. Appiah Ofori Karbo etc so Okatakyei himself should be the first casualty if the NPP is serious about seeking to address what he terms in his article as"Akan or Asant-Akyem tag".

Nana Addo launched a very bad campaign in terms of communication and strategy. The Npp communication team performed poorly .In 2010 when the Ivorian crisis started,Nana Addo and Npp took a very bad stance as against the wish of late Président John Atta MIlls. That was the beginning of war mongering tag on Nana Addo, especially when Jake said Akans in Ghana are likely to do the same thing. In all this blunder,Nana Addo went ahead to déclare all Die be Die,that's very unfortunate.Secondly, the Free SHS campaign message is rubbish in général élections, that's not what you need to win power. You can easily adopt that policy If you are already in power. Now,let's look at the strategy Kuffour used to win power in 2000.There was some kind of horse trading with Cpp that enabled him to win Central and Western Régions so easily.Again,Kuffour's slogan is far better and convincing,Golden Âge for Business .It really makes sense than the Free SHS.Happy NewYear to you all.

Really, NPP as a party does not want to come to power, the reason being that after losing two general elections, the first thing the party should have done was to sit down, access the causes of the defeat before thinking about presidential candidate for 2016 election but what did we hear? A whole general secretary coming out to confirm Nana Addo as presidential candidate. The party is not serious to win power. Since 2008, the party has lost rour regions to NDC and this is the question we have to ask why this sudden lost? Is the Flagbearer in the person of Nana Addo attractive to the masses? The recent election speaks a lot about Nana's performance in the regions. Even at his age now, the masses do not want him to be a president, how much more at 72yrs by 2016, when there will be a general election? Nana will perform miserably if the is to lead NPP. The party shoulds sit up and address the relevant issues and stop thinking about forcing Nana Addo on NPP votes.
Nana should give way to the youth. HE WILL TOO OLD BY 2016, 72YEARS OF AGE IS TOO MUCH.

When we complained about the derogatory utterances many NPP members and some of the Leaders in the Party made about other Tribes as being detrimental to the Party's image and chances, we were vilified by some in the Party who claimed to love it more than those complaining.
Whether people like it or not, the mere perception that the NPP is an Akan only Party, even though in reality it isn't, did hurt the Party a lot. So, it should start to solve its problems with that issue. It does not even matter if some non-Akan folks or the NDC are believed to be even more tribalistic. It is should not be a contest of which Party or Tribe plays the tribal card more. It is all about which Party genuinely embraces all and offers all equal chance to contribute to the Party's success.
NPP should humbly admit that the "All die, be die..." utterances by Nana Akufo-Addo and later on others by Ken Agyapong that suggested Gas and Ewes ought to be slaughtered by Akans, could only confirm that supremacy perception in the minds of many non-Akan voters.
Folks, the corruption in Government, as bad as it may be in the current Administration, plus the general deterioration in the Nation's Economy may be more important reasons to change the Party controlling the Government. But people think first about their personal humanity, image and potential for being taken seriously as fellow Citizens before thinking about how the Economy affects them.
If the very fundamental factors that qualify people to deserve whatever National cake is available for all are denied them, they cannot, in their hearts be convinced that a better Economy would direct some crumbs of fortune in their way. People want to be counted as equal Citizens, not some secondary Citizens. After all, it has been said by the sages that: "He who shares the little he has, is the more likely to share when he obtains something bigger."
So, if the NPP begins to address the Tribal issue more effectively to really convince the non-Akans that they are as important to the Party as Akans, the Party's luck would change for the better, even if there are other factors that need be considered in fixing the streak of its failures.
Comments like this, unfortunately, only attract more viscerally damning epithets from many NPP members, instead of being humbly taken seriously. That only portrays a certain refusal to correct the very fault noted and it sinks the NPP further.
So, whether or not the perception of NPP being an Akan-only Party is true, the Party ought to take it seriously and work harder to shake it off.
Folks, the situation has been that some outspoken NPP folks would respond to such complaints with insults, thinking that rejecting the notion in that way solves the matter. No. It does not. It is like someone complaining to you that something you said or did offends him or her. Then, instead of pleading for the person's understanding and apologizing, you react angrily with more insults. That perceived victim would even dislike you more. If you know you did not mean any of the things cited as offensive, or you did not say or do anything of that sort, the best approach is to let the supposed victim know lovingly that you never did that, and you apologize if whatever you said or did hurt them, because that was not your intention.
At this point, we hear and see a lot tribal insults hurled around, some of which are vengeful ones against Akans, especially, Ashantis, by non-Akans. This cycle of tribal insult-exchanges does not bode well for any meaningful and effective electorate core that can win the elections.
A little humility cannot hurt but only help. So, let the Party's leadership or any potential NPP Presidential candidate take the mantle of genuine inclusiveness to appeal to the wider Population. No more "Yen Akanfo de,..." crap. And no one should advocate the murder of anyone for the sake of gaining control of the Government.
If nothing at all, we should take a cue from how the British have managed to make every Citizen of theirs feel proud and inclusive in their Kingdom, be they Scottish, Welsh or English. The historical dominance of the English has waned significantly to accommodate the rest.
When the NPP does this, it would be easier to sell its other goals and agenda to the rest of the Nation. People want to know they are appreciated first, that their humanity counts as much as the others' before trusting them enough to join them for any purpose.
He who has ears to listen in NPP must do so. For, a word to the wise is enough.

You surely don't get it. Do you? Even if your claim that PNC is majority Northerners, it does not carry the burden of notoriety as a Northerners-only Party. We all agree that the majority of Ewes would vote NDC and surely some in that Party are downright bigots just like some accuse NPP of. But the fact is that there are more Ghanaians who rightly or wrongly believe NPP is an Akan-only Party than those who believe NDC is an Ewe-only Party. That perception which was deepened by the unwise utterances of Akufo-Addo and Ken Agyapong during electioneering campaign is what needs to change. Work must be done to align the perception with the reality which you and I know that NPP can accommodate other tribes as well. If the Leadership says something about the Party which may not be true, outsiders would believe it more than what you and I say differently. So, get off your horse and touch the ground. That is how to feel how firm the ground is to support your battle.
I did not confirm that NPP is that kind of a Party. If you read my piece thoughtfully you would have gotten my point. And just look at how you began to address me in response. You began with an insult as if it is the insult that proves your position more correct. Such is what I referred to in my comment as another repellant to voters to join the likes of you. People want to be respected, even if they cannot expect to be loved. This is a simple fact of humanity that every thoughtful person would agree with.
However, if you choose this insulting approach for seeking victory for the NPP you will wait for a longer time than you could imagine. Pray that no third Party seriously picks up the idea of inclusiveness, and invites all Ghanaians to help solve our problems. Recalcitrant NPP with your attitude would dwindle fast in competitiveness.
I hope, however, that NPP would take the likes of Dr. Frimpong Boateng, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, Dr. Wireko-Brobbey and Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe more seriously and open up to accept wider opinions. Your shallowness will simply keep the Party stuck in opposition for a very long time.

If the NPP will ever have any chance, figures such as Gabby and others who think that Nana Addo must be president at all cost needed to be reined in; up till now this is not happening. Kuffuor won the elections in 2000 because of voter fatique- he had to be helped by the other smaller parties in the second round and the uninspiring personality of the the late Mills. Kuffuor gentle demeanor also played a role but Nana Addo persona is a put off toe many. Npp supporters can complain all they want about the fact that the party is non-tribal but we all know the zeitgeist of the party. The looting that occurred during the handover and the struggle to retrieve state property, and the recent revelations about the drill ship undermines any trust of having this party win hearts.

i honestly believe that when the drug allegations were made nana addo should have come out and admit that it happened in his school days as obama and clinton did to put the matter to bed.people understand that when you are young you tend to do things you wont do as an adult and would have forgotten by now.whoever advised him to play arrogant and wish it away advised him wrongly or it was his own decision because he had too much skeleton in the cupboard.if he has then he is a security risk if he ever becomes a president.the big nations will use it against him to the detriment of the nation when it comes to contracts and foreign policy.this is some of the reasons why akuffo addo can never win an election in ghana in my view.

Why should Ewes and Gas be killed in the Ashanti region before that lilliputian and oldish odikro from the Akyem enclave of nana Addo Dankwa becoming a president of Ghana!!! He has no sense of judgement to rebuke such a nonsensical and cocaine driven speech and claim?? But Nana had guts to talk on Woyome issue??? An unpardonable offence and crime!! Nkrumah ruled over all Ghanaians when the Ewes and Akans and Gas were all alive. So also was it under JJ Rawlings over 19 year rule. Kronfuor Kuffour's rule also saw the Ewes and Gas live and live abundantly even though were openly discriminated upon and dislodged from the army and retired from the Civil Service as Busia also did arrogantly!!!
Under tobe "government" of Nana Addo Dankwa so the Ewes and Gas and the Northerners were to be killed!!!! Nana actually is an expired political good that cannot and will never ever resonate to win a political power for the NPP!! As for him, and his perceieved divisiveness and his mafia boys and men, they will never ever win political power!! Even if they come to poacify the goods of our land, there is NO HOPE for him and them!!! Abomination!!! Akan party stature is stinking and offensive, man!!!

3. All politics is local. I repeat: All politics is local. Who represents the NPP in the non-Akan constituency and districts?
4. Katakyie, the blame lies with the party officials, leaders in parliament and campaign organizers. In the USA, specific legislators are appointed to organize a campaign to win majority in the Senate and the Lower House. Was NAPO responsible for winning the majority in parliament? How did that fare? Who did the National Executive and Campaign Managers recruit for seats in swing constituencies such as Central, Western, and Brong?
5. Nana Addo: How well has Nana marketed himself to constituencies in Accra, Central, Western, and Brong?
6. The NPP's legacy: What legacy did we leave in those constituencies?
It defies all reason that an NDC administration that has performed abysmally since 2009 should be in office in 2014. Democracy is being undermined in the country and democratic loving NPP supporters will be the disenchanted ones.
The party's leadership in each constituency should be held accountable for the party's performance in the constituency

Arthur K., whose ideological leanings I personally don't share, is one of the very few objectives writers on this forum. He approaches topics intellectually, and as Prof . Kwamena Dickson, former VC of UCC told me, I can understand where he stands intellectually, without necessarily agreeing with him.
Your post-election analysis should always include dissenting views, not only those who sing your praises or share your point of view.(I don't mean you personally)
Katakyie, ever since you returned to Ghana, you have become more objective without sacrificing your political view, and to me that is very healthy for our political discourse.
