An Open Letter on Festivals to the Okyeman Traditi

The Odwira of the Akuapem people did not originate from the Akyem Abuakwa kindom.

Granted that the Akyem people were instrumental in the foramtion of the the Akuapem State as you recalled.

The "Odosu" and the "Obooman" that are used for the basis of the Odwira festival and that gives the legitimacy to the Odwira festival was captured from the Ashantis by the Akuapems in on of the wars. It is for this reason that the Ashantis haven lost the Odosu and the Obooman do not celebrate "Odwira" but "Adae kese" instead

It is therefore not entirely true that the Odwira of the Akuapem people originated from the Akyem people but rather from the Ashantis
