Letter From The President: Let ?em vote

Countrymen and women, loyalists and opponents
It?s amazing that this country has been thrown into a frenzy over whether our citizens abroad should be allowed to vote in future elections. We have suddenly become so excited about this issue that in Tamale last week, people threw chairs at each other at a forum to discuss it. I can?t believe that such a simple matter has generated so much controversy. But I blame it all on the NDC people ? who simply enjoy opposing just for the sake of opposing.

When in the run-up to the election, we tried to push the bill through to allow our citizens abroad to vote, I perfectly understood the NDC?s apprehension and their opposition to the bill. Then they spoke intelligently and offered very good reasons why the bill should not be passed. Their argument at the time was that I was trying to bolster my support base by passing the law to allow those abroad to vote. ?This isn?t the right time?, they said. I didn?t wholly agree with most of the points they raised in opposing the bill at the time, but I concurred and ordered the withdrawal of the bill.
