The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, has assured angry students and the alumni of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) that measures have been put in place to restore peace and calm on campus.

Prof Yankah’s assurance follows a meeting held with the university council on Tuesday, 12 March 2019 over the dismissal of some lecturers by the Vice-Chancellor Rev Father Prof Afful-Broni.

The students, on Tuesday, embarked on a demonstration to mount pressure on the V-C to recall their dismissed lecturers.

According to the students and alumni, Prof Afful-Broni has dismissed about 12 lecturers since he took office.

The latest is the dismissal of three senior lecturers, UEW chapter president Dr Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh and Prof Sarpong.

The V-C cited misconduct and insubordination among other reasons, for his action but the lecturers have denied any wrongdoing.

The students, despite the assurance from Prof Yankah, said they will continue with their protest until their lecturers return to post.
