Trending GH: Ghanaians express confidence in NaBCo

Government introduced the NaBCo policy initiative as part of its commitment towards addressing the alarming rate of youth unemployment in the country.

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Accra, 100,000 beneficiaries of NaBCo successfully passed out at the Independence Square in Accra.

NaBCo however, has come under heavy criticism following its initiation and subsequent implementation.

Among the several critics of the policy are the Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Employment Committee, Richard Quashiga, and the National Youth Organizer of the NDC. They have recently downplayed the significance of the government’s Nation Builder’s Corps (NaBCo), describing it as mediocre and a repetitive policy, respectively.

The President, however, in his speech at the launch yesterday slammed his critics reaffirming that the initiative will go a long way to partly address the current unemployment situation in the country.

Some Ghanaians have however expressed great optimism in the policy spearheaded by the President.

"This is a very good policy and i know it would work, but if government could back it by law so that it wouldn't change as governments change, just as the National Service...it'd be better", a taxi driver told Ghanaweb.

While others believe that appropriate planning would go a long way to sustain the policy goals, others remain highly confident that, this initiative would reduce the dependency ratio in the country.

"In the interim, i think it'd help graduates combat the burden of dependency, because, instead of staying home and doing nothing, they would get something to do to earn a living. And it is also a means of curbing some social vices"
