Today in 2017: Ghana wants trade, not aid – Bawumia

Just a month after being sworn into office in 2017, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia declared that his government would not be dependent on aid from international communities rather, they would engage them in trade business.

"The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government wants a relationship with the world driven more by trade than aid,” Classfmonline.com reported.

He made this statement during his presentation on the theme, leapfrogging development: The African story at the 5th World Government Summit in the United Arab Emirates.

He highlighted that “the potential for leveraging technology for growth in Africa is huge. We need to tap it urgently.”

In the same vein, President Akufo-Addo whiles delivering a speech at the 71st New Year School in Accra also assured Ghanaians of implementing programmes and policies that will position the country on the path of progress for the country to achieve the 'Ghana Beyond Aid' vision.

Ghana’s Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said the government of Nana Akufo-Addo wants to trade with the rest of the world rather than relying on aid from the international community.

“Africa has to understand that the process of leapfrogging must be homegrown and implemented in full.



“The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government wants a relationship with the world driven more by trade than aid,” Dr Bawumia said at the 5th World Government Summit in the United Arab Emirates recently where he was a co-panellist with President Alpha Conde of Guinea, who is also AU Chairman.

Dr Bawumia spoke on the topic: Leapfrogging Development: The African Story.
He said “the potential for leveraging technology for growth in Africa is huge. We need to tap it urgently.”

The World Government Summit is a gathering of leaders in politics, business and critical thinkers to deliberate on the future of Africa. This year’s event was on the theme: SHAPING FUTURE GOVERNMENTS.
