The Leader and Founder of the All People Congress (APC) Hassan Ayariga has commended President Akufo-Addo for dismissing the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Charlotte Osei from office.

He also thanked the Chief Justice and her Committee for acting on the petition by the concerned staff of the EC which led to Charlotte Osei’s removal, saying her dismissal has confirmed what the APC has always said about her.

“The arrogance and abuse of office by Madam Charlotte Osei left no one in doubt that she was a danger to the EC and the country. In the 2016 election, the hostility she showed towards the APC and its leader and her utterances gave her out as an unfair commissioner.

“I urged the people of Ghana to embrace this decision and see it as an opportunity to reform the EC.

President Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday sacked the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Charlotte Osei and her two deputies – Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwah – from office.

The dismissal comes after some aggrieved employees of the Electoral Commission (EC) last year petitioned the president to dismiss the Chairperson of the Commission, Charlotte Osei.

The largest opposition party in Ghana, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday night announced that it will lead a mammoth demonstration of opposition parties include the APC on Friday morning to register their displeasure over the dismissal of Charlotte Osei.

But a statement signed by Hassan Ayariga said the APC will not take part in the demonstration.

“I wish to disassociate myself and the APC from the reckless demonstration the NDC is scheduled to embark tomorrow. The demonstration is against the public order act, as the police has not been duly notified, the APC and myself cannot be part of the process.”
