The suspect has been sent to the Nima Hospital for treatment following the beatings he received from the residents.

The uncle of the four-year boy (name withheld) who spoke to Joy FM said the boy who was going to visit the mosque decided to call other friends to join him, but met the stranger who nearly kidnapped him.

"Witnesses at the scene said the man told the boy that his mom was waiting for him in the car and gave him a phone to play game but the boy resisted....residence said when they raised alarm of a thief, the suspect also raised started shouting thief in order the confuse the people around”.

He added that the police has assured they will get to the bottom of the matter.

For his part, ACP Abraham Quaye said the suspect has denied allegations leveled against him.

“Well we have gathered that the suspect is being a bit doggy, he is trying to distance himself from the alleged attempted child stealing. He said he wasn’t anywhere near where the child was,” he said.

He said the suspect claim he has no idea of what happened because he was going to buy something when the residence shouted “Julojulo” (Thief....Thief).

He said the stories are disjointed but the police will put the pieces together by following up on eyewitness and the suspect.

He however said the boy has confirmed that the suspect and his friends wanted to take him away.
