The Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has charged police personnel in the country to support efforts by government in bringing to an end the increasing rate of crime in the country.

According to him, the increasing rate of vigilantism, human trafficking, robbery among other crimes must be tackled head on.

Addressing personnel of the police service in Cape Coast as part of his tour of the Central region, Mr. Dery pledged government’s support to help end crime in the country.

He lauded efforts being taken by the regional command to reduce crime rate.

He explained that the police needs to exhibit high professional conduct including dealing with the tag of corruption which the public tend to associate the police with.

He also urged the public to support the police with information which will help arrest miscreants in society so every Ghanaian can go about his activities freely.

“We will stop vigilantism…I am giving you the order today that if there is vigilantism in your area and you do not produce the perpetrators, you must be sanctioned and we must get evidence of that…we are not going to go back,” Mr. Dery said.

Mr. Dery added that the president cannot achieve his economic transformation and implement his policies unless Ghanaians feel safe and vigilantism is stopped.
