Contrary claims that the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration built the Ridge Hospital now known as the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims otherwise

“John Mahama didn’t build the Ridge hospital. I have the documents. $250m was used to build the hospital”, Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi claimed on his newly commissioned TV station.

“The company that built the hospital is the same company that will continue with the phase 2 and they will use $140m to build it” the Regional Chair popularly called Wontumi told host, Oheneba Nana Asiedu.

Mr. Bernard Antwi Bosiako however, stated that the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Mahama is the only former president who has lost election and because of unknown reasons wants to be President again and seeking to take credit for things he has not done.

The cost of the hospital's construction dominated headlines in the run-up to the 2016 elections when the then opposition leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, attacked the then NDC government of inflating the cost of the project.

Candidate Akufo-Addo in his “real state of the nation” address delivered in February 2015 accused former President Mahama of inflating the cost of the project by $142 million.

The then government as well as Crown Agents Ghana Limited, the company who was contracted to conduct the value for money assessment, challenged his accusation.

However, after taking over political power, the government of President Akufo-Addo made a U-turn to praise the NDC government they [NPP] had criticized.
