Some residents in the Bono East region have expressed fear after it emerged that the region has recorded its first case of the deadly Coronavirus.

The residents who say the news came as a surprise, want stricter enforcement of the safety protocols on COVID-19 by the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies(MMDAs).

According to some residents, most of them were initially complacent with the protocols but that position has been revised following the announcement that the region has recorded a case.

Expressing their fears to Ghanaweb, they revealed that they will be abiding by the safety protocols in full since it is now clear that it is no more a mirage.

A resident who told Ghanaweb that his position to adhere to the safety protocols has now been rekindled by that singular announcement.

“The Bono East region recording a case has really put us on our toes because initially, we thought it wouldn’t come here but now it is here. Initially, although I was taking very good care of myself in terms of abiding by the protocols and everything. This time my attitude towards it has changed because now I have seen that it is around.” he said.



The Bono East region on May 28, 2020, recorded its first of COVID-19, bringing the total number of affected regions in the country to 15.

The case was recorded out of 1,393 samples that were taken during a routine and enhance surveillance tests that were carried out in the region.
