Rains collapse part of Dome-Kwabenya road

Commercial drivers at Dome-Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region are calling on local authorities to consider reconstructing a major drain around the Dome Railway Roundabout.

They believe such a move will avert further destruction of life and property any time it rains heavily as it did on Monday, 18 June 2018, which resulted in the collapse of portions of the road and destruction of some vehicles.

The resultant floods damaged countless commercial vehicles leaving scores of passengers stranded.

There were also reports of an accident involving a 207 commercial bus leading to the injury of the driver and another passenger in the area.

The drivers are of the opinion that the reconstruction of the drainage system will help channel rainwater into the main drains to prevent flooding.

Meanwhile, three people have died in the Volta Region following the heavy downpour in some parts of the country.

The deceased include a grandmother, Yaa Gayi; 10-year-old Morkporkpor Dofe and 8-year-old Elolo Dofe at Sokpoe Morkordze in the South Tongu area.

They were electrocuted while attempting to seek shelter during the rains after the roof of their house got ripped off by strong winds.
