A Financial Analyst, Yaw Amekor says the statement put out by former Board Chairman of defunct Capital Bank, Pastor Mensa Otabil was carefully and professionally worded to avoid further committing the man of God.

The embattled man of God in the said statement distanced himself from the misappropriation of GH?610million liquidity support given to the defunct Bank by the Bank of Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with host of the Gold Power Drive, Samuel Eshun, Yaw Amekor said the statement was carefully couched to react to the allegations of wrongdoing being made against Pastor Mensa Otabil both on social and traditional media.

“It (statement) is a very carefully, gingerly and professionally worded; he is not trying to commit himself. I saw the statement as just expressing concern about what is happening on social media and as far as the media landscape is concerned,” he observed.

Yaw Amekor says the statement only feeds into the “rumour environment” created by the Bank of Ghana report on the collapse of the two banks.

“The fact that we don’t have any clear presentation from probably the most credible institution is an issue; even you must be concerned. We don’t know who is at fault. It’s just a rumour environment,” he stated.

He believes Pastor Otabil’s denial imposes a duty on the institutions involved to come clear on details of the individuals who played specific roles in the fraudulent utilization of the liquidity support.

“What’s going to be in everybody’s interest is who is going to come out and tell us the facts as they are,” he lamented.
