No cause for alarm – MCE soothes frayed nerves over Coronavirus

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kweku Tetteh says there is no need for local residents to panic over the discovery of coronavirus in the municipality.

A first case of the pneumonia-like virus has surfaced in the Eastern region, specifically in Lower Manya Krobo and the MCE says there is no cause for alarm as the patient, together with others have been in quarantine since their return from India.

The MCE was speaking during a disinfection exercise at selected areas of the district as part of plans drawn to fight the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

According to him, authorities were still expecting results of tests carried out on some 202 employees of the company who may have come into contact with the patient.

The best thing the public can do about the spread of coronavirus, says the Assembly Chief, is to remain calm and stay put.

“In Lower Manya, the situation is very calm, nobody should entertain any kind of fear, the situation is under control,” said the MCE, adding that the assembly was able to identify the situation due to its surveillance.

As fears spread nationally, the MCE sought to soothe frayed nerves in his municipality.

The respiratory virus has now affected more than 408 people across seven regions, according to the Ghana Health Service.

Mr. Tetteh while commending President Akufo-Addo for initiating the exercise was convinced it would go a long way to help the municipality in its efforts to combat the pandemic with ultimately no new recorded cases in the country.
