New voters’ register: NDC ensnared by their own vile plans - Sammi Awuku

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been opposing the Electoral Commission (EC) over its decision to compile a new voters' register.

According to the party, there is nothing wrong with the current register which was used in 2016 and also claim it’s costly to do a new register.

The NDC has also accused the EC and the National Identification Authority (NIA) of planning to rig this year’s elections in favor of the ruling government.

National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku reacting to these NDC claims says the NDC has been caught in their own web.

According to him, the NDC asked their supporters to boycott the national identification exercise and slammed the leadership for leading their members and supporters astray.

“The NDC themselves have been caught in their own web…They asked their supporters not to even participate in the national identification exercise. Later on, the leadership of the party turned around and secured their national identification card…Again, the Members of Parliament on the minority side also secured their Ghana card, likewise the founder of the party former President JJ Rawlings and the leader of the party Mr. John Dramani Mahama also securing their national ID cards respectively and this makes their argument on the new voters’ register fundamentally flawed.

“Now, they are in a situation where they claim many of their supporters were not captured by the national ID exercise, meanwhile they from the onset asked the people not to participate in the exercise, so how can you eat your cake and have it?” he questioned.

Sammi Awuku is currently touring the Upper West, Savannah, Upper East, North East and the Northern Regions to train and educate party executives ahead of the new voters’ registration exercise.
