National organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has said government cannot be commended for the Nations Builders Corps (NaBCO), because it is not an innovative initiative.

Mr. Adams told Kwame Tutu, host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks the competence to create sustainable jobs.

He said, it is important that we create jobs but NaBCO should not destroy an existing policy adding, ‘’NaBCo will destroy permanent jobs we have in the country.’’ In his view, the explanation from government on NaBCO has revealed the policy will not be sustainable and it looks like we are not a serious country.

‘’I will not clap for government for a thoughtless process. If you ask for details, they are unable to give answers.’’ The politician questioned why trained professional nurses will still be going under training again under NaBCO.

Government should have used the paid internship module under the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for this policy instead of creating another bureaucracy, he added.

He has therefore asked government to give financial clearance so the Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service and other bodies will employ trained graduates. The Nation Builders Corps (NaBCO) is a government initiative aimed at addressing graduate unemployment in Ghana.

The programme was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on May 1, 2018. Central to its objectives is to engage the raw talents of unemployed graduates and equip them with skills through a process of value addition and training.

The scheme will this year employ 100,000 graduates under seven modules; namely, Educate Ghana, Heal Ghana, Feed Ghana, Revenue Ghana, Digitize Ghana, Civic Ghana and Enterprise Ghana.

Placement in the NaBCO will last for a period of 3 years under a stipend of GH¢700 every month.

The NaBCO is opened to all Ghanaians who have discharged their national service obligations. To enroll onto the NaBCO, prospective applicants would have to log on to the programme’s website, www.nabco.gov.gh to fill out application forms at no cost or charge.
