'NPP pushing out EC boss for rigging agenda' - Kofi Adams

National Organiser of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of seeking to have the Chair of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs Charlotte Osei removed from office for their own political interest.

Mrs Osei is facing possible impeachment as she is expected to answer to six allegations out of the 27 accusations levelled against her by her two deputies Amadu Sulley (in charge of Operations), and Georgina Amankwa (in charge of Corporate Services).

This was after she appeared before the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court on Monday, December 11, after the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo forwarded a petition by Forson Ampofoh and Godsway Dzado, both drivers at the EC, for her impeachment in relation to alleged corruption and mismanagement.

Mrs Osei, has, however, explained that she has not been officially served with the petition and has, therefore, written to the presidency to furnish her with a copy of the petition.

Reacting to the development in an interview with Moro Awudu, host of the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Tuesday, 12 December 2017, Mr Adams said the Akufo-Addo government has never been happy with Mrs Osei as EC boss from the day of her appointment.

He said: “Even before the elections, from the first time of her appointment, and to some extent Amadu Sulley, the governing NPP today have set out on many platforms to discredit these two personalities. As for Charlotte, the first thing was that she was actually a parliamentary candidate and an aspirant of the National Democratic Congress. Indeed, they succeeded in getting a fabricated poster of her.

“When that did not work, now they said she engaged in affairs with some men of influence to get her appointment. When that did not work, [they said] she is in cahoots with the NDC to rig elections for them. That also didn’t work and they finally won the elections. Now, they have to get some faceless people to petition.

“First we were told [the petitioners] were 17, now we are being told the number has declined to two. It should tell you clearly that, here is a government that instead of focusing on working on their promises so as to secure them maybe another election victory, they are busy at removing election adjudicators so as to put in their cronies in order to facilitate rigging machinery.”
