File Photo File Photo

A group calling itself the Concerned Volta NDC Grassroot has petitioned the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC to as a matter of urgency reassign the current chairman of the party in the Volta Region to the newly-created Oti Region where they believe his services will be of great benefit to the party.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 16 , the group appealed to the NEC of the party to review a decision it made on Friday, March 29th that confirmed John Kwadwo Gyapong’s stay as the Volta Regional Chairman of the party

“We place this call to the Volta regional Secretariat, the National Executive Committee(NEC) and, indeed, the NDC as whole to review the Friday March 29th NEC meeting directive which has invariably aided Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong to seek to remain Chairman of the Volta Regional NDC.”

The group intimated that the regional chairman has no connection with the region as he is an indigene of the new region and his vast experience will be of importance to the party.

Below is the full statement from the group

...........IMMEDIATE RELEASE............

VOLTA REGIONAL CHAIRMAN MUST GO!!!

HE DOES NOT DESERVE OUR CHAIRMANSHIP
_________________

Good day comrades of the National Democratic Congress and the media .
We the 'CONCERNED VOLTA NDC GRASSROOT wish to convey to the media and the NDC as a whole to advise the incumbent Volta regional Chairman of our party, Hon. John Kwadwo Gyapong, to make a switch to serve in the newly created OTI REGION to better serve the interest of the NDC .

We place this call to the Volta regional Secretariat, the National Executive Committee(NEC) and, indeed, the NDC as whole to review the Friday March 29th NEC meeting directive which has invariably aided Mr. John Kwadwo Gyapong to seek to remain Chairman of the Volta Regional NDC.

We wish to state, for the record, that Hon.Kwadwo Gyapong, aside from being a son of the land (Oti) has vast and rich experience worth utilising in the reorganization drive of the party in the newly created region ahead of next year's general elections . Besides, Volta is blessed with very experienced and resourceful members who can easily lead the NDC even in the absence of chairman Kudjo. Sadly though, same cannot be said of Oti, and many will agree that consolidating the party structures and activities in a new region as Oti requires no mean experience.

We wish to reiterate that the incumbent Volta Regional Chairman, JOHN KWADWO GYAPONG, has neither his vote nor constituency (AKAN) in the Volta region. In light of these crucial dynamics, insisiting on continuing in his capacity as Volta Regional Chairman, and even though the NEC directive allows him to do so, is still, in our view, selfishness in its most unreasonable manifestation. Such a move could only seek to serve his individualistic and parochial interests; and we say, unreservedly, that he (JOHN KWADWO GYAPONG) will no longer enjoy the cooperation of the rest of the executives here in the Volta region. The looming fracas that this will inevitably occasion, needless to say, will not bode well for the elctoral fortunes of either regions.

We entreat the National Executive Committee (NEC) to urgently act in the interest of the party, in the absence of which the newly created Oti region stands at great electoral peril .

We are, by this medium, calling for a review of the decision of the National Executive Committee on this matter and that we will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the paramount interest of the party is served in this matter.

We are, by this release, also looking forward to a fruitful outcome from the National Executive Committee of the great NDC .

GYAPONG KUDJO MUST GO....!!!!

Long Live Ghana ,

Long Live Volta and Oti Regions ,

Long Live NDC

Thank you .....!!!!!
