National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the just ended Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Delali Kwesi Brempong has denied knowledge of any vigilante group owned by the two main political parties, NDC and NPP.

He told the Emile Short Commission probing the unfortunate incident that marred the by-election “I don’t believe the NDC or the NPP control vigilante groups, but rather, certain political mafias control these groups”.

Narrating the incident that happened on that day, Mr. Brempong said he had left home earlier that morning to monitor happenings at some polling stations only to be informed of some shooting around his home by his son.

According to him, he has never owned a gun in his life or had a stockpile of arms in his house contrary to earlier claims that led to his house being raided by personnel of the national security.

“In my life, I’ve never lawfully or unlawfully acquired any firearms and I also want it on the record before the Commission that I am a Pharmacist by profession and I will have no business acquiring firearms. There’s no use for firearms in the practice of pharmacy and I’m also under oath to protect human life because my job as a pharmacist is to find remedies for people who are unwell.

He added: “So till today, I’m yet to know why men in brown trousers and black T-shirts with some covering their faces should come to the house of a civil pharmacist and an unarmed professional to wound innocent supporters who had actually come to support me in a by-election.”
