NDC Elections: Forces merge against Tawiah Boateng in Eastern Region

One of the four Candidates contesting for the Eastern Regional Chairmanship position of the NDC Alhaji Sumaila Mahama has stepped down from the race declaring support for John Owusu Amankrah popularly known as Jowak, a businessman.

Alhaji Sumaila Mahama announced this to the delegates Thursday in Koforidua at GNAT Conference Hall . Present were some former and current regional executives as well as former District and Municipal Chief Executives .

He explained that he stepped down to support Jowark to recapture the Regional Chairmanship position from the incumbent Bismark Tawiah Boateng whom he accused of messing the party in the region.

“Jowak is equally good as I am, when we decided to go into multi party democracy he was the regional chairman, during his tenure as Chairman, he did very well, he was able to bring the party together so whenever we had election NDC performances were very high. We need somebody who is a unifier, team player and a captain come to lead this party to victory come 2020. So I have stepped down to support him”

Alhaji Sumaila who is currently a member of the National Executives Committee(NEC) of the NDC says he is going contest the National Vice Chairmanship Position. The decision move has intensified pressure to oust the incumbent Regional Chairman,Bismark Tawiah Boateng who is seeking reelection.

Now the incumbent Regional Chiarman, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, has two Strong candidates , John Owusu Amankrah and Basil Ahiable to defeat to retain his position in Regional Executives Conference to be held Saturday at the Asuogyaman Constituency .

Meanwhile, the incumbent Regional Secretary, Mark Oliver Kevor is being battled by Baba Jamal Konneh who is incumbent Regional Communication Officer.

Mark Oliver Kevor contend that he quit his Job as Lecturer at the Presbyterian University College to enable him fully serve the NDC Party, a service he has diligently delivered, but his sole contender Baba Jamal disagrees accusing the incumbent Secretary of mismanaging resources of the party.

A total of 61 aspirants filed to battle the various positions at the regional level of the party by close of nomination. Election for the Youth ,and Women Organizer positions have already been held of which Shirley Naana Ampem defeated long time women organize, Evelyn Korang while Kwadwo Minta won the Youth Organizer position.
