The people of Ghana have remembered the demise of the late President John Evans Atta Mills as they lay wreaths at the Asomdwoe Park in his memory.

On the 24th of July, 2012, the country lost a great soul in the person of His Excellency John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills. ‘Asomdwoe Hene’ as he was fondly called placed the whole country in great shock with his sudden death.

Five years down the lane, this man is been remembered by the people of Ghana as a wreath-laying ceremony was organised in his memory with people adorned in white and black clothes as well as clothes with his image embossed in them.

The ceremony brought together the former President John Dramani Mahama, as well as former Vice President Amissah Arthur and his wife, family members and loved ones who thronged to the Asomdwoe Park to witness the rather simple but solemn wreath-laying and memorial service held in honour of the late President.

In delivering the sermon, Rev. S.Y Kwami of the Global Evangelical Church called on all Ghanaians to emulate the peaceful nature of our late President and always seek God first.

According to him, “it was a Full Gospel Business Men Fellowship meeting that the President gave his all and accepted Jesus Christ in his life. Ever since he has committed the country into God’s hands and turned every ground into a prayer field.”

The ceremony saw Former President John Dramani Mahama who has clad in a black lay a wreath. Old students and mates of Prof John Evans Atta Mills of Achimota School performed their usual ritual routine as they laid the school cloth on his tomb. It continued with his son, Kofi Sam Atta Mills who laid the wreath on behalf of the family. The Atta Mills Institute also laid a wreath and so did his campaign team members. Party Chairman, Mr Kofi Purtophy also laid a wreath on behalf of the whole NDC team.

The event which was held in memory of the late President had all well-wishers as well as sympathisers coming to the famous Asomdwoe Park to witness the ceremony.
