Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante has commended the two major political parties i.e the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the commitment shown towards the disbandment of optical party militia groups which is popularly known as vigilante groups.

The man of God told Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the meetings held between the two parties brought out positive outcomes.

He said the two parties both agreed that the existence of vigilante groups is a threat to Ghana’s democracy and stability.

He expressed strong optimism that the decision to have the Peace Council employ the services of experts to develop a roadmap towards the disbandment was a good one.

The NPC has given the two political parties four weeks, to submit a roadmap to guide the process of disbanding militia groups in the country.

The leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), are expected to reconvene after the deadline, to deliberate on how the roadmap should be implemented.

The decision was reached at the end of the two-day peace dialogue at Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, Prof. Asante said.
