A lot of people are willing to enjoy the benefits that come with a political party but are not willing to make any sacrifice, National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has observed.

Speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise Thursday, August 3, he said doing politics is not like office work where one expects to be paid at the end of the month, but more or less a sacrificial work.

“Political party work is not a salaried work, it is not office work but fieldwork. It is moving around, it is also a lot of volunteering”.

He added, “Many people enjoy the benefits of political activities but not everybody is willing to sacrifice their time, money and energy to undertake it”.

The former trade minister, who is seeking to lead the opposition NDC into the 2020 elections, also acknowledged the difficulty in getting people to offer the needed support to climb the political ladder.

“Very few people have all the money in the world to undertake a political campaign” he noted, adding that one needs to put together people of like minds who believe in what the candidate stands for and are willing to support his work.

“Anyone who wants to lead any group of people must first go through an internal process of identifying their own strengths and their own weaknesses and also identify the need of the group of people they want to lead,” he underscored.
