Major Mahama's murder: Tema roundabout monument request by family intriguing - Baako

Editor in chief of the New Crusading Guide, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has indicated that he was rather intrigued by the request of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama’s family for a monument of the deceased to be erected at the Tema roundabout on the Accra-Tema motorway in his memory.

For him, he would rather have agreed to suggestions that the monument to be erected in the township where the unfortunate incident happened.

“I was intrigued a little bit about the Tema thing, I was intrigued, I have to be honest with you”, he said.

The family of slain Major Maxwell Adam Mahama requested for monument of the late military man to be erected at the Tema roundabout on the Accra-Tema motorway in memory of their kinsman.

Speaking on Joynews’ weekend analysis show; Newsfile, Kweku Baako, despite his fascination stated that he believes the family in its grief-stricken state should be allowed to express themselves and suggest what they would have as a memorial for the late Major.

“They are entitled to make suggestions…this is not the time to argue with the family, let them talk, let the family express their feelings and let the state listen to them, interrogate the issues and judge what is the best thing to do”, he stated.

Kweku Baako commended government and the general public for their contributions towards ensuring that the late Major had an honorable burial service. He was however quick to add that government must not relent in efforts to intensely interrogate the issues and bring the perpetrators to book. He further admonished government to remain faithful in its promises to the family, particularly, the widow and the children to ensure they are very well catered for.

“I think that we’ve done well as a people, as a nation, as a state, we’ve given him a befitting farewell…the state must cater for the family, particularly, the wife and the children”, he said.

The late Captain Mahama who was posthumously given a rank of Major was buried on Friday in a fitting state burial that saw the country’s top echelons in politics and the military all attending.

He was killed by residents of Denkyira-Obuasi on May 29, 2017, where he was commanding army personnel to fight illegal mining.

Mistaken for an armed robber because he had a pistol on him while going on jogging, the army officer was lynched by men, women and children.
He was burnt and stripped in addition, the worse form of death anyone can suffer.
