Mahama’s fight against corruption unbeatable – Asiedu Nketia

Former President John Mahama’s record of fight against corruption remains unparalleled and unbeaten, NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia has acclaimed.

Speaking on political talk show Ekosiisen on Asempa FM, longest-serving General Secretary of the opposition party indicated that compiling the results of the various corruption perception indices released thus far beginning from the Mahama-led administration, it will be observed that the Akufo-Addo government has performed under par and woefully comparatively.

“… if we combine all the corruption perception indices from Mahama’s era to Akufo-Addo’s in the 4th Republic, you would relaise that President Mahama’s government has no coequal; yet they keep hammering in local media that the NDC government is corrupt.

He highlighted the incidence of recent scandals that hit the energy sector and Public Procurement Agencies as classic examples of government officials using state amenities and resources to serve the purposes of private individuals.

“…Today we are seeing several classes of corruption. What is happening today can be referred to as ‘state capture’ because individuals are capturing the state institutions meant to serve the public and Ghanaians as a whole to serve the needs of the private individuals.” Mr. Nketia chided.

The Akufo-Addo led administration has been hit with a number of corruption allegations since taking over with many questioning the President's wherewithal to fight the canker as promised during his election campaign.



Ghana scored 40 points in the last Corruption Perception Index which was carried out in 2018.

According to the report, the figure/position was an improvement on previous scores which a record low in 2015.

A statement released by the Ghana Integrity Initiative suggested that “This score is a positive departure from the continuous drop the country has been experiencing since the year 2015,”

“The 2018 CPI scores Ghana 41 out of a possible clean score of 100 and ranks the country 78 out of 180 countries/territories included in this year’s index. The 2018 CPI used nine (9) out of the thirteen (13) data sources of independent institutions with high level of credibility to compute the score for Ghana. The data sources include:

The 2018 CPI score shows that Ghana’s performance has improved by 1 point from its 2017 score of 40. This score is a positive departure from the continuous drop the country has been experiencing since the year 2015.

The following are Ghana’s CPI scores from 2012 when the scores became comparable – 2012 (45); 2013 (46); 2014 (48); 2015 (47), 2016 (43); 2017 (40) and 2018 (41).”
