‘Kum Yen Preko’ demonstration against government failed – Sammy Awuku

National Organizer of the NPP, Sammy Awuku has argued that Tuesday's ‘Kum Yen Preko’ protest failed to attract huge numbers as it was expected.

The ‘Kum Yen Preko’ protest march, according to organisers – the Coalition for Social Justice (CSJ) – was a demonstration against economic hardship under the current government.

"I was talking to Mr. Joshua Akamba and he told me about 1000 people showing up at the demonstration on Tuesday and this is a huge failure comparing to our previous demonstration when we were in opposition,” Samuel Awuku exclusively told Kwame Tutu on Anopa Nkomo on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7

“The protest failed because under the New Patriotic Party administration people are enjoying Free SHS,and allowances for Nursing and Training college students," he added.

Mr. Awuku has described the economic hardship protest dubbed “Kum Yen Preko” demonstration by the Coalition for Social Justice as a mere float and failed to get the needed attention.

The demonstration is against what they describe as hardship, insecurity and oppression experienced under the current Akufo-Addo administration. Many of the protesters were seen clad in red, with placards bearing different messages up in the air to send off a strong signal about their displeasure.



Former President, John Dramani Mahama, also declared support for the march. According to him, the cost of living in the country has become unbearable, with heightened state of insecurity among the reasons for which he believes the protest is necessary.
