KSJI-Ghana donates to Catholic Bishops' Conference COVID-19 fund

In consonance to an appeal made by the Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference, for support to equip its 129 health facilities in Ghana, the Supreme Subordinate Commandery and Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International (KSJI), have made a cheque donation of GH¢ 30,000 to the COVID-19 FUND of the Bishops' Conference.

The donation is to assist the Catholic Church in Ghana to support its health facilities as well as the needy and the vulnerable in the society during this coronavirus pandemic era.

The Church has a total of 129 health facilities made up of 46 hospitals and 83 clinics

The Supreme Subordinate President of KSJI in Ghana, Major General Peter C. N. Sangber-Dery, speaking at a ceremony at the National Catholic Secretariat on April 17, said, “This is our widow’s mite to give a hand to Your Lordships in your quest to support the national effort aimed at providing various protective tools for our frontline health workers; especially those in the 46 hospitals and the 83 clinics that fall under the Catholic Health Service”.

The Archbishop of Accra, the Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, who received the donation on behalf of the Bishops' Conference, expressed his utmost gratitude to the KSJI and all groups who had so far responded promptly to the appeal.

He urged them to continue with the fraternal brotherhood, true love and charity to the needy in society.

The members of the KSJI delegation included the Supreme Subordinate President for the Ladies Auxiliary, Noble Sister Eugenia Enyimayew and Secretary, Noble Sister Aisha Cecilia Armah

The Brothers included the 1st Vice President and Treasurer of the Supreme Subordinate Commandery, Brigadier General William Adjei and Brigadier General Joe Ben Daware respectively.

The National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) Officials present were Rev. Fr. Lazarus Anondee, Secretary-General, Rev. Fr. Charles Boampong Sarfo, Assistant Secretary-General, Rev. Fr. Dieu-Donne Davor, Executive Secretary of the Department of Social Communications (DEPSOCOM).

The other staff were Mr. George A. Adjei, Director of the National Health Directorate, Dr. Anita Appiah, Head of the Community and Institutional Care, Mr. Thomas Asiedu, Head of the Drug Centre and Mr. George Asare, Financial Controller, all of the National Catholic Secretariat.

Maj. Gen. Sangber-Dery, advised all Commanderies and Ladies Auxiliaries at all levels to also endeavour to support the Church and the government to curb the COVID-19 pandemic.

KSJI is present in 18 countries globally. Including the United States of America, Canada, some West African countries, Trinidad, Tobago, England and Germany.
