I will lead 'civil coup' against Akufo-Addo's government – Anyidoho

Deputy General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Koku Anyidoho has said although he’s unlikely to confront the state with the force of arms, he would stoke the flames of “civil revolts” to protest Akufo-Addo’s oppressive regime.

Koku Anyidoho, has warned President Akufo–Addo that, he will end up like his father, who was overthrown together with Dr. KA Busia in 1972. The National Redemption Council (NRC) in January 1972, led by General Kutu Acheampong kicked out the Progress Party (PP) government, which had Dr. KA Busia as Prime Minister and Edward Akufo-Addo, father of the current president, as the ceremonial president.

The Controversial politician who remains adamant with regards to his claims told sister radio station, Starr FM that President Akufo-Addo’s decision in the Ghana/US Defense deal is costly hence he’s prepared to lead what he described as civil coup d’état against the Ghanaian leader and the current government.

“He should just cast his mind back into history, and understand that history has a way of repeating itself. What he is trying to do, selling the sovereignty of this country will not work. As I speak to you there’s going to be a Press Conference by the Progressive Forces. Tomorrow there’s going to be a massive demonstration. We shall move into the regions with same demonstrations; Let My Vote Count, OccupyGHana what were they seeking to do? So we too we shall go and occupy the Flagstaff House.” he told Morning Show host Francis Abban Tuesday.

Some citizens alarmed by the claims of the Deputy Scribe of the opposition party say his words are far more pernicious and dreadful than mere civil protests.



Security Analyst David Agbee said there has been antecedent events of bloody revolts in the past, hence politicians must be careful with such utterances that incite coups so as not to dent the significant milestone of the country’s democracy.

But Anyidoho contends it’s his inalienable right to resist oppressors rule as a citizen of the country.




Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in the wake of the issue has cleared that Anyidoho is not committing the party to any Coup as the comment made by him[Anyidoho] were solely his opinions and do not in any way represent the views of the party.

“The party cannot stop people from expressing their opinions, but if a comment incites people and it’s not made in the name of the party, the person making that comment should be held responsible and not the party,” he said.
