Minority Chief Whip of Ghana’s Parliament, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has called the bluff of Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP), Kennedy Agyapong, daring him to carry out with his threat.

Speaking in Parliament on Friday, June 22, 2018, Kennedy Agyapong said, that he had some dirt on Muntaka Mubarak.

“I want to remind him [Muntaka Mubarak] of what he told me to go and tell Ursula [Owusu-Ekuful],” Kennedy Agyapong said before the press.

But speaking to Citi FM last Friday, Muntaka Mubarak said, his colleague MPs could attest to the fact, “ he never talks with Kennedy Agyapong, despite the claims”.

He stressed that “he has never been cosy with Assin Central MP because of “the way he behaves.”

“Nobody in Parliament will ever tell you that they have seen him and me even holding hands and chatting. He should say whatever he is saying. I have never had any chat with him because he is not a friend,” he stressed.

According to him, he did not fear Kennedy Agyapong or whatever information he purported to have and dared him to make his move.

“I don’t think anybody is afraid of him. Nobody is afraid of him because nobody eats from his home and for him to say if I dare him. I am dating him now. I am daring Hon. [Kennedy Agyapong],” Muntaka Mubarak said.

His remarks came after Kennedy Agyapong called him “dumb” for referring him to Parliament’s Privileges Committee over purported insults on Friday.

“He [Muntaka Mubarak] is a dumb MP and now, I will take him on one on one. Let him go to the privileges committee that I Kennedy Agyapong say he is a dumb MP because he did not even listen to the context of the issue and just dragged the matter,” Mr Agyapong was reported to have said.
“A whole member of parliament, you don’t even listen to the tape and you consume information and just come to parliament and say that I have insulted parliament. Let them play the tape,” the Assin Central MP added.

Before Friday’s comments, Kennedy Agyapong was also reported to have described Parliament as “useless” for having Osei- Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as its Majority Leader on Accra-based Net2 TV, which belongs to him.

These comments compelled Muntaka Mubarak to file a motion to refer Kennedy Agyapong to Parliament’s Privileges Committee.

Muntaka Mubarak called for the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, to be suspended from Parliament for the rest of 2018.

Muntaka Mubarak who is also an MP for Asawase in the Ashanti Region believed Kennedy Agyapong’s recent conduct was unfit for someone in the legislature.

“You have the right to make your views in the strongest terms that you can, but you don’t have the right to be insulting people all around,” he said.

Meanwhile, It has been advertised in official parliamentary records that the Parliament’s Privileges Committee will tomorrow, Tuesday, June 26, 2018, begin considering the referral.

The MPs on both sides of the aisle agreed to the request to haul Kennedy Agyapong before the Committee.
