I’m on my knees, please forgive me – Hajia Fati begs journalists

Having been bashed from all angles and directions following her assault on Multimedia journalist Ohemaa Sakyiwaa, staunch member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Fati has unreservedly apologized to all pressmen for her misconduct.

It was an unintended act she said, pleading for mercy from Ghanaians and the leadership of the party at the party's headquarters Wednesday May 9.

“I apologise to the leadership and rank of the NPP, I apologise to Sammy Awuku, I beg all journalists, what happened was a mistake, it wasn’t intentional, I’m here today to appeal to all pressmen, im on my knees begging you people, what happened was a mistake, please you people should forgive me, I’m on my knees”.

This comes on the back of an assault perpetrated by her on an Adom FM journalist at the NPP Headquarters on Friday May 4.

Madam Fati slapped Ohemaa Sekyiwaa who was covering events at the NPP’s headquarters as the party’s suspended Second National Vice Chair, Sammy Crabbe, went to pick his nomination forms.

Ohemaa received a hefty slap on her cheek for trying to take pictures of Hajia Fati during the event.





According to Ohemaa Sakyiwaa, Hajia Fati was infuriated at Mr Crabbe, for coming to the party's headquarters to pick nomination forms to contest in the upcoming elections. In her bid to get an interview, the embittered Hajia Fati smashed the reporter's phone and punched her mouth, accusing her of working for Mr Crabbe.

Hajia Fati in her defense said “She was snapping [taking pictures of] me, I don’t know her, she didn’t approach me, she didn’t tell me anything. I only saw a flash on my face twice, the third time, I slapped her because I didn’t know who she was,” she said.





Many including the Ghana Journalist Association and members of the NDC have since the attack, condemned her actions, describing it as uncalled for and disrespectful.

The NPP, Tuesday May 8, released a statement distancing itself from the act “and condemning it unreservedly.”
