I had no hopes of justice from government - Sam George

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George, who was assaulted by one Mohammed Sulemana, a National Security operative, has said the government’s position on the recommendations was not different from his expectations.

According to him, he was not hoping for any good thing to come from Nazareth, saying that the government’s position only reinforces his long-held view that the action by Mohammed was approved by the government.

These were contained in a statement the Ningo-Prampram legislator, who has won a second bid to defend the seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) come 2020, issued yesterday, in response to the portions of the White Paper that spoke about him.

Concluding the statement, the parliamentarian resorted to “scripture and pray for the President from Psalm 109:8b ‘let another take his office’. May the Lord bless the reading of his word and bring it to pass.”

My attention has been drawn to the ongoing discussions on the Emile Short Commission report and the subsequent Government white paper that has been issued. I have the following comments to make regarding the portions related to my person and the assault on me.

I wish to thank Mr. Justice Emile Short, Her Lordship Prof. Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu and Mr. Patrick K. Acheampong for the service to the Republic in the discharge of their mandate as Commissioners. I also thank their entire Secretariat for the task undertaken during the sitting of the Commission. At the appropriate time, I believe my Party, the National Democratic Congress and other stakeholders would speak about the white paper in more specific terms.

The position of Government in the accompanying White Paper reinforces my long-held view that the dastardly actions of January 31st 2019 had the tacit approval of those who occupy the highest office of the land. The rabid disagreement with the findings and recommendations of the Commission are testament to this fact.

I had no hopes of justice from this government and I have been vindicated. This is the clearest sign yet that the President and his security team have a grand agenda of unleashing violence and undermining the peace, stability and safety of our beloved Republic so long as it perpetuates his failing government in power. I would resort at this time to scripture and pray for the President from Psalm 109:8b, let another take his office. May the Lord bless the reading of his word and bring it to pass.
