How Waakye decided elections in Ghana football

Waakye is known to be a favourite dish of many Ghanaians but little did we know that it had the power to cause an upset in a national issue such as an election.

The adage ‘the way to man’s heart is through his stomach’ is often said to prospective wives to make them recognize the importance of food in the sustainability of their union but in the regional elections of the Ghana Football Association, Osei Tutu Agyemang popularly known as “Kotoro” used Waakye to carve a way into the stomachs of the delegates and subsequently their minds.

This came to light after the defeated candidate alleged that prior to the election day, he was in a ‘comfortable lead’ because delegates had assured of him of their votes but the distribution of the delicacy changed their minds.

According to Osei Nsia who polled just 29 votes compared to Kotoro’s 41, after vising and consulting the delegates and kingmakers in the region, he was confident of his victory but the waakye worked magic for the man Osei Tutu Agyemang.

“Delegates have really shown they are not reliable. This morning they were asked to come to a certain place, when they got there, they were fed with waakye”, he told Otec FM.

“The delegates assured me with 40 votes during the campaign but this morning I realized you cannot rely on them (delegates) because they were asked to go to a certain place and when they went, I’m told they were fed with ‘Waakye. Delegates cannot be predicted, they have their different way of behaving.

With the regional elections out of the way, all is set for the GFA presidential and executive council elections slated for October 25.
