Government allocates GHC197m to tackle floods in Accra

Government has allocated GH¢197 million for the control of perennial flooding in Accra, Deputy Minister of Information has revealed.

Mr Pius Enam Hadzide said the money is allocated to the Ministry of Works and Housing, which is responsible for flood control, to undertake various projects and works to reduce the incidence of flooding in Accra.

He spoke with Kwame Tutu on Kingdom FM 107.7 Anopa Nkomo on Tuesday.

The Deputy Information Minister explained that as part of efforts to contain flooding, there would be dredging and de-silting of major drains in the capital city.

Additionally, there would be the construction of more drains to enable the free flow of water when it rains to reduce the perennial flooding in Accra, he said.

According to him, these are measures being put in place to ensure that good sanitation is maintained saying it will also protect lives and property.
