Ghana gears up for Diamond Jubilee celebrations

It’s barely a week to Ghana’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the country is gearing up already to celebrate.

Series of activities to mark the event began Friday February 24 with the launch of the Ghana@60 anniversary cloth on Friday February 24 in Accra being the first.

Tuesday saw President Akufo-Addo and several other state personalities present at the Nationalism park for a parade and wreath-laying ceremony in commemoration of the 69th anniversary of the February 28 Osu Christianborg Crossroads shootings.

This year’s independence anniversary under the theme ‘Mobilizing for Ghana’s future’ marks the 60th year since Ghana gained independence from its colonial masters, the British.

The 30-member committee tasked with planning the celebrations released an outline of the programs to the public. According to the outline, the major event which comes off on the 6th of March will be characterized by an Independence Ceremonial Parade nationwide followed by the lighting of the Anniversary torch.




Traditional authorities and several people with diverse cultures across the country will also come together at the National Festival of Art to celebrate the fundamental harmony of the various cultural expressions with the exhibition of art and craft.

Other activities to be organized ahead of the major event include the premiering of a documentary titled; ‘from Gold Coast to Ghana, A Glorious History of Self Determination’ and a nationwide Health Walk across all 10 regions on the 4th of March.

Presidential awards for students and an International Gospel Concert will also be held days after the major event.
