Ghana-US military deal: NDC MPs traitors and unpatriotic - NPP

A communicator of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah has used unprintable words to describe the conduct of the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers on their position on the controversial defense cooperation agreement between Ghana and the US.

“They are traitors, unpatriotic and enemies of progress”, he took swipe at members of the opposition NDC in parliament describing them as such.

According to the spokesperson for the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, leading members of the opposition party have always been kicking against policies and programs introduced by Akufo-Addo administration which will inure to the benefit of the citizenry.

“The NDC were against Free SHS, restoration of teacher nursing training allowances and many more”, Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah stated on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show hosted by Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

“They were even against National Health Insurance Scheme introduced by former President Kufuor”, he added on “Kukratumi”.

Parliament on Friday night, March 23, 2018, approved the controversial Ghana-US defense cooperation agreement which seeks to provide the United States access into the country to camp its military forces.

The approval was done by only Majority Members of Parliament because the Minority staged a walkout during the debate on the Floor of the House.

It appears the House was bent on getting the agreement through before it rises for recess.

“This House adopts the report from the joint committee on defense and interior,” the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Oquaye said after the approval.

Prior to staging the walkout, the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, spoke for close to 17 minutes giving a litany of reasons why they believe the agreement should not be ratified by Parliament.
