George Afriyie rallies support for Normalisation Committee

Ghana Football Association Presidential hopeful George Afriyie is rallying support from the Ghanaian football fraternity for the FIFA Normalisation Committee.

The ex-GFA Vice President has called on the football family to offer support to the Committee and wants his colleague administrators to exercise perspicacity and patience towards the committee.

FIFA installed a Normalisation Committee in Ghana in September to restructure, reform and normalize football in the West African country following the dissolution of the Executive Committee of the country’s football governing body headed by banned ex-President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

A clique within the football fraternity have launched incessant attacks on the Normalisation Committee calling on the four-member team to lay out the roadmap for elections to vote for the next line of the Association’s officials.

But, Afriyie believes the Normalisation Committee is competent enough to properly structure, reform, normalize and introduce strong policies to help the future of football in the country.

“We should all offer our support to the Normalisation Committee because I believe they have the competence and a clear mandate to properly structure our football. There are challenges to club football in the country and they could only be resolved by proper policies and structures which is the job of the Normalisation Committee,” he told Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM.

The renowned business man suggested he is not in a rush to announce his plans to run any campaign for the GFA elections as he is patiently waiting for the Normalisation Committee to see out its mandate.

“There is a Normalisation Committee in place now and they have a mandate. I would make an announcement at the right time but for now let’s support the team to work,” he added.

Ghana Sports Online understands Wilfred Osei Kwaku, a close ally of disgraced ex-President of the GFA Kwesi Nyantakyi, is seriously campaigning to canvas for votes to become the next President of the Football Association.

Osei Kwaku went public to defend Nyantakyi during times of his most unpopular decisions and shady deals like the out of court settlement of the Glo Sponsorship deal. Checks have confirmed Glo made payment of $1.5 million to the ex-President but he declared only $500,000 to members of the Association.
