First phase of voters registration exercise in Ho peaceful – EC

Mr Nana Oduro, Ho Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC) said the first phase of the voters registration exercise in the Municipality was largely peaceful.

He said though adherence to the health safety protocols was a challenge at the initial stage of the exercise, it improved and no major glitches were recorded during the first phase, thus making the exercise generally peaceful within the Municipality.

Mr Oduro said the 16,812 people registered at the 20 centres of the phase one of the exercises out of the 193 centres.

He was hopeful that more people would be registered during the second batch of the first phase.

He, however, said the initial movement plan had changed nationwide and now the new movement plan required that the EC completed the two batches of the first phase before commencing with the second phase of the exercise, “therefore the second phase period is being used for batch two of the first phase.”

Mr Oduro said his outfit was using the Radio stations within the Municipality to educate the people on the new movement plan and urged the citizenry to come out to register.

“We are moving to every part of our registration centres, so if we have not been to your centre, don’t worry yourself moving to any other centre, we will come to your place,” added.

Meanwhile, when the Ghana News Agency visited some of the registration centres, the exercise was proceeding smoothly without any hitches.

There were Veronica buckets filled with water, liquid soap, hand sanitizer, tissue paper and infrared thermometer gun to enable registrants and registration officials observe the health safety protocols to stem the spread of the COVID-19.

At the United Pentecostal Primary School registration centre, 29 people were registered as at 0905 hours with some in queue while others trooping in to have their turn.
