AFAG is calling for all Commissioners to step aside with immediate effect for investigations AFAG is calling for all Commissioners to step aside with immediate effect for investigations

Alliance for Accountable Governance has intercepted the response of the Deputy Electoral Commissioner in charge of Corporate Affairs, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwah, to the Economic and Organised Crimes Office to allegations levelled against her by the EC Chair, Mrs Charlotte Osei.

In her response, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwaah revealed on page 11 that the EC Chair had specialised in paying only foreign denominated contracts. She further alleged at page 14 that the EC Chair single handily dealt directly with the Ministry of Finance on the Commission's budgetary allocation obviously side-stepping due processes and procedure of the Commission.

AFAG in a press statement is calling for all Commissioners to step aside with immediate effect for a full-scale investigation into these allegations of rot.

AFAG INTERCEPTS DEPUTY EC RESPONSE TO EOCO

AFAG has intercepted the response of the Deputy Electoral Commissioner in charge of Corporate Affairs, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwah, to the Economic and Organised Crimes Office to allegations levelled against her by the EC Chair, Mrs Charlotte Osei. (Excerpts of intercepted response attached)

If the response and counter allegations are true, then AFAG can unequivocally state that the Electoral Commission of Ghana is not only a haven of corruption but a bulwark of unbridled daylight thievery.

In this Electoral Commission scandal, there is evidence to the effect that a Commissioner blew a whopping GHC3.6 million on office partition and decorations alone.

In her response to EOCO, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwaah revealed on page 11 that the EC Chair had specialised in PAYING ONLY FOREIGN DENOMINATED CONTRACTS. She further alleged at page 14 that the EC Chair single handily dealt directly with the Ministry of Finance on the Commission's budgetary allocation obviously side-stepping due processes and procedure of the Commission.

It is important to note the loud silence of Mr Amandu Sulley, a Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, who is alleged to have pocketed GHC6 million proceeds from political parties internal elections and also engaged in the treasonable act of illegally transferring votes during the 2016 polls.

The position of AFAG is that all Commissioners must step aside with immediate effect for a full-scale investigation into these allegations of rot. Intelligence available to AFAG indicates that the continuous stay in office by the EC Chair and other Commissioners is seriously undermining investigations as vital documents and evidence are getting missing by very second.

AFAG calls on the President of the Republic to as a matter of urgency institute a Presidential Commission of Inquiry to look into and unravel these allegations of rot and corruption to its logical conclusion.

Consequently, AFAG demands EOCO to update the public on the state of investigations into these scandalous allegations and counter accusations given the nature, magnitude and quantum of tax payers funds involved.

AFAG assures the good people of Ghana that it will serialise and drop copies of all intercepted evidence at its behest, to ensure accountability and win this war on corruption, as and when AFAG finds it necessary and prudent.

God save the Electoral Commission!!

God save Ghana!!!
