It appears persons against the territorial split of the Volta Region would not relent in their efforts to protect lands in the northern territory of the region, which they believe belong to their forefathers.

The southerners have now resorted to campaign against the call for the division of the region in the Oti Enclave, after the supreme court dismissed a case challenging the constitutionality of the process of creating 6 new regions.

The Coalition for Volta Youth, a group strongly contesting the division of the Volta Region has released a poster with inscriptions “Vote No Oti Region” in their bid to convince persons dwelling in the north not to approve the bid to divide the Volta Region.

The poster which also has an inscription “Save Volta Now” written across the map of the Volta Region, is expected to be splashed in every corner of the demarcated area for the proposed Oti Region, where the December 27 referendum would be held.

The campaign is targeted at sending signals to like-minded-persons who have the interest of saving the region from being divided on ethnic grounds.

Ghanaweb has also sighted a letter on social media addressed to the Volta Regional Police Command by the group, requesting for protection during their campaign in the north, which would commence on Saturday, 15th December 2018 and last till aftermath of the referendum.

The letter signed by the Oti Area Chairman of the Coalition of Volta Youth, Simon Agbekoenyegah states “... we need a fair play of the Security Agencies’ (Police), protection during the campaign, on the election and after the entire referendum.”

The letter further detailed that anti Oti Region campaigners would have no option but to defend themselves against any “illegal attack”, should the police fail to provide them escorts to carry out their activities peacefully.

“We are the future leaders of the region and we will not entertain discrimination, harassment or inhuman activities”, states the letter copied to the Volta Regional Security Council, Police Commands, Volta Regional Peace Council, Torgbui Sri of Anlo State, Togbe Afede XIV of Asorgli State and Pramount Chiefs across the region.

Mr Simon Agbekoenyegah has acknowledged sending the letter to the Volta Regional Police Command.

However, it is unclear if the police would do as requested by the Coalition for Volta Youth and provide officers to escort persons campaigning against the new region in the Oti Enclave.
